Tourney to the Centre of the Miserable Bastard

God the Bastard dealt me 73,
then sat me next to a Big Slick.
F**kers pre-win every trick.

And see how his lusties turn away from me
the moment they see my 73?

But then, every hand is special, right?
Every one is God’s Good Child?
And like every so often jokers are wild???

Or. Here. Lookit another way,
Its either one in a million or choose not to play.

Because my blind is down, Big Slick bullied in.
And I can’t fold out the bubble, its just a touch too far
And all f**king night I’ve had terrible cards.

F**k it.

So I gather my crumb and push it all in,
telling myself I’m still SOME chance to win.
Big Slick throws down with glee.
So Shiny and Strong next to my 73.

But its OK, I’ve lived worse.
I still love the Universe.
'Oh well' climbing from my chair.
'Guess I may as well get the f**k out of here'.

But then the dealer comes down with mana from heaven,
a 5, a 6 and an 8 to match my suited 7!
A mind of its own, my arse is straight back down!

Any heart! Any 9! Any 4! Any 3! Any 7!
Ever-ever-so-earnest-a-wish.
Please God please please please grant me this.

My eyes and heart keep checking the cards overturned.
And then I look up
to see Big Slick ripe with scorn. (?)

Sneering down from right up high.
What the f**k?
is this dickhead called Snyde?

Then Snyde leans in and says
“Sucka. You’re gonna test your luck?
Lookit me…I don’t give a f**k.
Against you, I’d ALWAYS bet more.
F**k you clown,
I don’t pick this s**t up off the floor”.

And I just can’t believe it, F**ker’s mocking me being poor!?

What a cunt?
What a cunt!
What a complete and utter cunt!!
F**K YOU CUNT.
God f**k you over. And your children, you miserable-f**king-bastard.
cuntgetf**kingcancer

And then f**k me, bubbling through my bile,
I hear a muffled cheer and a cry.
Its the Big Slick posse rocking with delight.

Because while I was gone, the river and turn came down.
Now everything is smiles and aces all round.
And check again my Misery
As always, none are a match for me.

Another horrible drudge, another scurry away.
I’d console myself, but I don’t know what the f**k to say.
For the F**king. Love. Of. God.
what the f**k was I meant to learn today?

Oh well. Lets hope he got caner the cunt.

1. 3 years ago i started to play poker(live) at first i played very bad,but that doesn‘t count, because all of my friends played first time to,week after week,we all was getting better and better. After some time even buy in‘s grown up from 5Lt(2dollars) to 10Lt(5dollars).We played very often, like 3 three times in a week,we even start to look up for new member of our poker players group and we find.Almost 12-13 people start to play in our home game.Time after time we find new style of poker, from sit n go(we played it most) to cash play,we had funny rule if you win pot with 72 everybody gives you 50ct(25dollar cent). After playing poker with our group more than half year, suddenly everyone just disapear from poker world. Some people just didnt like to play poker anymore ,other went to other countries for better life,i and few my friends was left with no poker. And then our messias(one of the friends) showed for ous a poker site (www.p***********y.com) (sorry if i cant write it) they was giving a free 50dollars to poker sites.
When he said about this site i even didn‘t know i can play poker online(not the smartest man).
We all registred to that site, there was a test to get money,i passed. After i passed it and get money(to Partypoker) it was green light to my friends and they asked me to help with a test(poker questions).
After money we get,we start to play.It was very interesting and different from live poker. One of friends lost his bankroll in first day, other one in fist week, third one after some time to,and there happend a magic thing,i who played really bad poker in live(they said that to me,even when i money from them) start to win pot after pot in online poker, after some time from 50 dollars i made in partypoker another 50 dollar(cash games) after month it already was almost 200dollars,in the final it was 220 dollars.A lot of money for young guy(i was 18 years old) and no way to cash out,i didnt had a bank card, only bank something,my brother said i cant help you,i will not deposit to take your money, mother and father said it too.So i start to play for big money like its not real money, tournament for 33 dollars. After some time i lost some money, but i get idea try bank transfer, and it worked.I get the money 120 dollars, other 80 i left to play again, but then i was really bad, unlucky player and lost it all.
With no money and only dream to play online poker again,i start to look up for other sites, and then i found one,it was our www.bankrollmob.com,i was really happy with first NDB,and freerolls in party poker,so www.bankrollmob.com bring me back to online poker world.Even now in 2013 year,i won weekly mobdraw and i get money to my partypoker account(i‘m happy more when ever(in poker)).So why i‘m playing online? Because poker live in home games are not the allways best and real, online poker can give a lot of experience,i even cant say how it help me to play better. If i ever won money from you(online players) i‘m not sorry  because its oppurtunity we cant let go! And i will continue to play online because its stronger, better, richer!

Wild Bill and the Dead Man's Hand
On August 2, 1876, in Deadwood, South Dakota, old west legend Wild Bill Hickok was shot to death by Jack McCall during a poker game because McCall believed he was being cheated. The poker hand Wild Bill was holding at that moment was two pair, black aces and black 8s. Since that fateful day, that poker hand has been known as the Dead Man's Hand.

Cool Fact: Other memorable poker hand nicknames include American Airlines (a pair of Aces, due to the AA acronym), Motown (two pair -- jacks and 5s -- since it sounds like Jackson Five), and Dolly Parton (a 9 and a 5 -- a reference to the song and the movie 9 to 5).

Ever since I can remember, I have loved poker. Before the year 2000, it was hard to find any poker to watch on tv.... people just weren't all that interested in it. But then Channel 4 in the UK started showing a program called Late Night Poker... and I was immediately hooked. I watched it every night - gleaming as much information from it all as I could. I wanted to know everything about this game... so I watched, intently, night after night.

The years passed, and I played a little with friends - never serious, but played as much as I could.... I didn't fancy the idea of sitting in smoke filled casinos, gambling my hard earned money with hardened gamblers, so I continued to watch and play as much as I could.... hoping soon there would be another way.

Then - one day... it happened. Poker..... online? Was this the thing I'd been waiting for? This I had to see...

I registered on William Hill Poker - played a few sit and go's... some live table... some multitable tournies.... I played without bankroll management, without pot odds, without any real knowledge of what good play was.... but I played - and that's what was important.

Soon enough, I had my first ever final table - finishing 3rd place in the £11 buy in £3000 guaranteed... the next day I had my first win in the same tourney, followed by a 7th place the next day. I decided multitables were my thing, then set about learning as much strategy as I could.

I read everything I could lay my hands on... and with every bit of advice read, I got better and better. Without online poker - There would be no way of testing my skills... but with it, I had an infinite opportunity to learn, and improve.

In 2007, a previous unknown player, going by the name of Chris Moneymaker took down the most famous tourney of all, the WSOP Main Event after qualifying from an $11 satellite on PokerStars. Now, nothing will ever be the same again. Everyone wanted their shot - their chance at the multi-millions.... Including me.

Over the years, I have won $thousands playing online... but still dream of the big score. Television cameras on me - pros sitting across the table .... the real deal. But none of that would be possible without online poker.

Towards the end of June, 2013, my first shot at the big time arose. Taking down a field of 503 players, I won entry to my first major live tournament... Was this my moment? My chance to make it big? I sure hoped so....

So here it is - my first ever major live event - the UKIPT Series at the Hippodrome in London. All my previous online play had lead me to this - all the hundreds of thousands of hands have prepared me for this......

I arrived in London at around 8am on Saturday morning - giving me a full 6 hours to find the casino, find my hotel and to take in the sights (despite only living ~100 miles away, I'd never been to London before).

At around 11am, I found the casino, and my what a sight! It was stunning from the outside - and inside.... it was even more stunning. I immediately thought - this is where I want to play my poker.. in places like this - not grotty little backstreet pubs and casinos the likes of which can be found in Wolverhampton - this was the real deal.

I got my tournament ticket and all registration issues sorted by midday, then I had 2 hours to kill before action got underway... 1 hour and 45 minutes and 5 unnecessary walked miles later, I had found my hotel, checked in, and made it back to the casino. A strange and totally new mix of excitement and trepidation that you just don't get with an online tournament was fast washing over me - luckily the excitement being the overwhelming feeling.

Just before 2pm, I was handed my seat draw and found my place on the top floor, table 20, seat 3. A quick glance around the table revealed a serious looking bunch - but all totally unknown to me.

Cards in the air... starting stack 20,000

Level 1 - blinds 25/50

First hand I am in the SB... 5 limpers before me, then I look down at AJ suited. I complete the blind before seeing a flop of 8 2 3 - no chance of a flush and a button bet later and my first hand has passed by without a hitch, or a hit.

The blinds come around again, with nothing playable - raises in my BB & SB mean I can't see a flop.

My first good hand came on the button - folded around to me, I look down to see two jacks. I make it 150 to go, and blinds folded giving me my first win.

The remainder of level 1 passes without interest, and I'm sitting just below my 20k starting stack.

Level 2 - blinds 50/100

An uneventful start to level 2 was soon interrupted by this hand... With me in the BB, UTG raises to 350.. Button calls the raise before I look down to see two aces. I raise it up to 1200, and both players, after a long time staring me down, muck their hands.

The next hand, in the SB again I face a raise and a call before looking down at AQ suited. again I reraise up to 1200 but this time both players call. A flop of 7 2 A looks safe enough to me - and my follow up bet and subsequent folds confirms that feeling.

Next hand I'm on the button - and face an early position raise, looking down at my cards I see pocket kings - nice run of cards I think to myself, before raising up to 1200 again. The player calls me before fixing his gaze firmly on me and not on the flop at all. I return his stare and catch a flop of 2 3 6 out the corner of my eye. Without looking away, I fire out a 2/3 bet and he promptly folds.

Next hand, folded round to me I look down to see A 10 suited. I raise it up to 300 but facing a 3-bet from the big blind, I decide not to push my luck and fold my hand.

Good level for me, and I'm up to around 25k with the average a little over 20k

Level 3 - blinds 100/200 ante 25

A few hands in I look down UTG to see pocket 6s.. with the ante now in, I feel it's a good idea to raise any playable hands, so I make it 700 to go. The player next to act calls my bet, and everyone else folds. The flop of 10 J 3 looks ugly to me, but I fire out a 1,000 bet none-the-less. Opponent calls, and I know I'm either behind, or facing a QK straight draw - either way, I'm not happy with my hand... until that is, the turn comes down a 6... now I'm sure I'm in front at this point, so fire out a 2/3 bet. After a quick staredown, my opponent raise that making this my first big pot. All the possibilities running through my head now - and the one that I believe the most is that he is holding 10 J... All in I say, hoping for a short pause before a call. There was a short pause before he says "I guess my jacks are no good" and folds.

The rest of the level is uneventful and my stack is around 35k with the average around 24k

Level 4 - blinds 150/300 ante 25

No hands at all in level 4, and my stack slips a couple of thousand to 33k, average up to around 27k, so I'm still ahead of the game.

Level 5 - blinds 200/400 ante 50

Another uneventful level leaves me sitting just above the average with 30k

Level 6 - blinds 300/600 ante 50

A slow start to this level too, until this hand - early raiser makes it 2,100 - the button calls before I look down at pocket 9s in the SB. The early raiser has around 10k back and the button has slightly less than me. I know this already - and I'd happily set the early raiser all in, but with the extra caller - I ask the first raiser how many chips he has back (just so they both know I have a genuine hand) before flat calling the 2.1k. First to act, I see the flop of 9 K 2 - rainbow... perfect I think. Now just hope I'm up against an AK, or an optimistic KQ. I check, original raiser checks before the button fires out a rather large bet... after a lot of deliberation, I decide raising here and now is better than the slow play, so I raise his bet. Without pause he announces All In.. and with even less pause, I call and turn over my 99... he turns over 22 for a set of 2s and in a flash, I'm up to ~70k with the average around 35k

Levels 7 & 8 whizz by in a flash, with no major incident - I'm still feeling good and sitting comfortably above the the 44k average with ~65k

Level 9 starts with blinds of 600/1200 with an ante of 100, and I promptly moved tables for the first time. 3 hands later, and I'm moved again down to the first floor, and table 3. First hand on table 3 and I pick up JJ - A raise and a call precludes a flop of 3 9 J... I follow up bet a small amount before the lady to my left (who I later find out qualified through the same tourney as me) folds.

Levels 10, 11 & 12 are totally card dead for me, and with the raising blinds and antes, the average is getting closer and closer each hand. By the time I look down again at JJ on the button early in level 13, my stack is down to 57k and I'm facing an all-in push of 24k... I repush all in to isolate - before they flip over pocket 6s. The first card I see on the flop is a 6... and no jack leaves me down to 33k with the average now over 45k

A few hands later, the blinds now 800/1600 with the ante at 200, I again look down at JJ on the button. Folded around to me - I raise to 6000 with my two new found friends in the blinds, I'm sure I'll get a walk and pick up the pot for a nice boost. SB folds before the BB looks at me, almost apologetically before reraising to 25k.... I know he has me crushed - I announce fold before showing my jacks, and he shows KK and take the pot. Now I'm in trouble and need a hand soon...

level 14 is the last of the day and blinds are 1000/2000 with the ante at 300. My stack of ~25k is half the average and leaves little room to play.

I get nothing at all, and soon only 6 hands remain of the day. By the time the last one rolls up, I have 22k, 2nd to act... the average is 54k and I desperately need a double up. UTG raises to 5k, and I look down to see AK... I shove my stack (or what's left of it) into the middle... it's folded around to the initial raiser who promptly calls and turns over JJ... Those Jacks again - I just knew they would knock me out, and a low flop, low turn and low river proved me right - and I was out last hand of the day... I wish everyone luck for day 2, before walking away - more disappointed at being knocked out of a tourney than ever before. I finished 76th of the 223 entries on day 2, meaning I finished around 130th overall out of ~430, with 58 getting paid.

Looking back on it now, the experience was a great one, and has really gave me a taste for the big tourneys - I want more of this, and I intend to play a lot more from now on. I was very happy with how I played - playing through 8 hours - I never once made an incorrect decision, and wasn't outplayed at any point. I felt totally at home sitting with these guys - and I know if I played these events regularly, my first big score wouldn't be too far away...

So back to the online felt I go... back to the training grounds - back to learn and learn some more, so the next time an opportunity like this arises, I am even more ready than the last time.

I didn't walk away demoralised - I walked away more determined - more driven to succeed than before.

I walked straight back into the place that gave me this opportunity. Back to online poker to hunt out my next big shot... my next chance at the big time.

I'll see you again soon real world... but until then, I'm happy honing my skills in this online paradise.

TigerAxL, thanks for that interesting story, but it is said T&C (Rule Number 2) Copy/Paste is not allowed:

Anyway, that was a good story. I didn't know it.

A friend told me this story ....:

I just got back from Las Vegas a few days ago. I played mostly at the Golden Nugget. People were amazingly bad! I wanted to start a thread on some of the ridiculous things that happened. Would love to hear some of your stories as well.

-Older gentleman calls a raise in late position, original raiser says he "checks dark." Older gentlemen says "OK I check as well" as the flop comes out. Turn and river goes check check as well. Original raiser proudly turns over his AQ high, Older gentleman turns over Qd9d for a flopped flush on a king high non paired board for the 2nd nuts! lol

-Same older gentleman is in a 4 way raised pot. About 1200 in the pot original raiser bets 200 and gets one caller. Older gentleman goes in the tank and mumbles, "I just think you have a bigger one, I have a good draw, I just think yours is bigger" and folds. Turn completes the flush draw, original raiser bets 200 on turn and river to show down a better pair than the caller. Older gentleman says to me "I had the ten high flush draw I just had a feeling he had a bigger flush draw." I of course nodded and said something like "yeah that's a tough spot." lol

-The strangest hand I've ever seen happened at caesar's. An ultra aggressive gentleman from Holland raised utg, talkative regular calls from the BB. flop is Ace high, talkative regular checks and original raiser bets. The BB asks where aggressive guy is from, aggressive guy says "Holland." "OK I call then." he says. Turn is a blank and it goes check/call again. River is another Ace but brings in a flush draw. Talkative guy checks and It's on Mr. Holland. He grabs chips but doesn't make his move to bet yet. Talkative guy says "call." Mr. Holland confused and says "I didn't bet yet." Turns to the dealer and says "does he have to call whatever i bet now?" Dealer makes what I think is a horrible ruling and says "yes he is obligated to call anything you bet." Mr. Holland must have been completely flustered or confused at this point and he says he's all in. Talkative regular says "OK i guess i have to call." Mr. Holland shows up with 6 high with a busted gut shot against AT. Needless to say everyone at the table was completely speechless. If the talkative regular wasn't obligated to call it would have been a sick bluff that may have worked but according to this dealer he was obligated to call. Such a strange hand lol!

- An aggressive Hungarian kid is in a bvb hand with an older lady. Older lady calls from sb, Hungarian kid raises, lady calls. Flop is 556 lady bets out about half pot. Hungarian kid raises big. Lady calls, at this point lady has about half her stack in the middle I'd say. Turn is a 5 and lady checks. Kid goes all in and lady tanks, finally she says "OK I guess I call." Hungarian kid gets a little white in the face and doesn't want to show, "I got nothing." Lady shows 87 for a straight draw, Hungarian kid shows 42 for a gut shot. This was probably a 50-60bb pot. 8 high ships its lol

Would love to hear some more recent live stories.

I'll see you again soon real world... but until then, I'm happy honing my skills in this online paradise.

poker is the topic .. so far For all of my highschool years my greatest passion has been the study of no limit texas hold' em. I've read many books on the topic and consider myself to be a bit of an expert. Unfortunately this passion doesn't neatly fit into a college essay like the study of math or music, as there is undoubtedly a bit of a stigma on poker and poker players in general. Now what attracts me to poker is the fact that it is such a skill game. It contains a combination of psychology, math, and logic that simply does not exist anywhere else. I would ideally like to create an essay that emphasizes the intellectual aspect of hold' em, but am a bit concerned. Now my question is do you think that an admissions officer would take a poker essay seriously or do you think they would just look at the title and immediately/ dismiss it? ...........so will they or not idk.......................................................................................................................................

It should be noted that i will not speak of money in the essay. I will talk of it as a purely intellectual persuit.

Thanks very much. ryanbighetty..................... Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Question
