Write a poker essay and win $50 Comments & Questions  +1
Hello mobsters,

Here you can feel free to comment and ask everything about that competition. I am very busy this summer, because I am working at the tourism industry, so I don't have a lot of free time, but I will try to answer to all of you.

Good luck with that challenge:

You can feel free to write it serious or it could be funny as well. It is up to you. It is your choice. There are no limitations about the words. The essay could be very long, or it could be very short. You have to decide how long to be your essay.

You can choose the topic about the online poker. You can start the essay with your arguments why you are playing poker and after that you can continue with the space monkeys. Don't forget this is an essay, so it is allowed anything, but you have to start it with your arguments why you are playing online poker, and after that you can write what ever you feel it could be interesting.

Cool idea Peter - I'll definitely be taking part Smile

My questions... Will the essays be displayed anywhere other than BRM?
Are you offering the $50 prize, or a third party company/site?
What (other than it just being a cool idea) is your motivation for this?
and how, if at all, will you benefit from it?

Hi yout85,

Will the essays be displayed anywhere other than BRM?

The essay has to be displayed only here:

http://www.bankrollmob.com/forum.asp?mode=thread&id...

It has to be written by the participants only using their skills and poker experiences. While writing the essay it is not allowed using internet articles, other poker forums, poker sites and poker news. All the essays will be checked if they exist in the Internet area, or any parts of it.

The content of the essays will be checked in the Internet area in a lot of languages including Russian, Romanian, Spanish and many others.

Are you offering the $50 prize, or a third party company/site?

The prize of $50 will be paid from my pocket. It is quite possible the final results to be used by a third party company.

[QUOTE]What (other than it just being a cool idea) is your motivation for this?

I will have a Bachelor Degree of Tourism in September. I work in the tourism industry and the casino games and poker games are related with the tourism business also.

Here at the Summer Resort Sunny Beach - Bulgaria you can see casinos at every corner. Some of them organise International Live Poker Tournaments with big prizes. Here you can see a lot of european poker players.

In July, August and September there will be some european live tournaments here. There are hotels with casinos which are offering ALL Inclusive Packages including room, breakfast, lunch, dinner plus Buy In for the Live Tourneys. Here is an example:

http://platinum.bg/platinum-masters-challenge-series

And all this is related with the tourism sector.

[QUOTE]And how, if at all, will you benefit from it?

This is a project and research which yesterday I decided to start based on the subjects which I studied in University and the jobs which I had and have now. The idea is mine. It is not necessary at all to take benefit of that. That is not the purpose, but it is quite possible third parties companies to be interested of the final results.

The next BankrollMob competition starts on 15th of July 2013, 19:00 EET, where the winner will receive $100. The new Terms & Conditions will be published in a new thread at The BankrollMob Forum on the 15th of July 2013, 19:00 EET.

Good luck with the challenge!

Best Regards,
Peter7878

Now that you've said third parties might be involved i want to rephrase my original question...

Do I have a realistic chance of winning if its not serious?

I will decide who is the winner. I didn't said third parties are involved. I said that it might be possible third parties to be interested who is the winner and what will be the final results of that competition which will be done only by me. But the whole selecting process and analysis of that competition will be done only by me!

Everyone has a realistic chance of winning. You have a free will to decide to participate or not into this competition. It is free. Smile Just put your efforts and write your essay based on your poker experiences and knowledge without using Google. Smile

Good luck!

A friend told me this story ....:

I just got back from Las Vegas a few days ago. I played mostly at the Golden Nugget. People were amazingly bad! I wanted to start a thread on some of the ridiculous things that happened. Would love to hear some of your stories as well.

-Older gentleman calls a raise in late position, original raiser says he "checks dark." Older gentlemen says "OK I check as well" as the flop comes out. Turn and river goes check check as well. Original raiser proudly turns over his AQ high, Older gentleman turns over Qd9d for a flopped flush on a king high non paired board for the 2nd nuts! lol

-Same older gentleman is in a 4 way raised pot. About 1200 in the pot original raiser bets 200 and gets one caller. Older gentleman goes in the tank and mumbles, "I just think you have a bigger one, I have a good draw, I just think yours is bigger" and folds. Turn completes the flush draw, original raiser bets 200 on turn and river to show down a better pair than the caller. Older gentleman says to me "I had the ten high flush draw I just had a feeling he had a bigger flush draw." I of course nodded and said something like "yeah that's a tough spot." lol

-The strangest hand I've ever seen happened at caesar's. An ultra aggressive gentleman from Holland raised utg, talkative regular calls from the BB. flop is Ace high, talkative regular checks and original raiser bets. The BB asks where aggressive guy is from, aggressive guy says "Holland." "OK I call then." he says. Turn is a blank and it goes check/call again. River is another Ace but brings in a flush draw. Talkative guy checks and It's on Mr. Holland. He grabs chips but doesn't make his move to bet yet. Talkative guy says "call." Mr. Holland confused and says "I didn't bet yet." Turns to the dealer and says "does he have to call whatever i bet now?" Dealer makes what I think is a horrible ruling and says "yes he is obligated to call anything you bet." Mr. Holland must have been completely flustered or confused at this point and he says he's all in. Talkative regular says "OK i guess i have to call." Mr. Holland shows up with 6 high with a busted gut shot against AT. Needless to say everyone at the table was completely speechless. If the talkative regular wasn't obligated to call it would have been a sick bluff that may have worked but according to this dealer he was obligated to call. Such a strange hand lol!

- An aggressive Hungarian kid is in a bvb hand with an older lady. Older lady calls from sb, Hungarian kid raises, lady calls. Flop is 556 lady bets out about half pot. Hungarian kid raises big. Lady calls, at this point lady has about half her stack in the middle I'd say. Turn is a 5 and lady checks. Kid goes all in and lady tanks, finally she says "OK I guess I call." Hungarian kid gets a little white in the face and doesn't want to show, "I got nothing." Lady shows 87 for a straight draw, Hungarian kid shows 42 for a gut shot. This was probably a 50-60bb pot. 8 high ships its lol

Would love to hear some more recent live stories.

So are we actually doing your job and thisis an assignment for your tourism or a part of it since there is the entailment part to tourism and maybe we're just making a pinch of what you will be getting paid. Which is irrelevant since it is a good way to promote and delegate your own profession. Just curious!

I will write something at some point Peter... not had a lot of time just recently.

Just so you know in advance though... I don't want to be considered for the $50 - I'll do it just for the love of writing about poker.

If I do win, I'll find some way of redistributing the $50 among the community.

I'd like to throw my hat in the ring, but I just want to know. Will I retain rights to it? I'd like to use it for your contest, and possibly throw up on my site/in a video or something.
