Lol... now if he just stops for a coffee and a cig on his way to the tournament and lingers long enough he might make day 2... a new strategy to run deep and maybe reach a ft?!?

Originally from Copenhagen, Denmark, Gus Hansen was a player of sorts long before his career in poker started. In his teens Gus was a fairly active sports better and a youth tennis champion. Later in life Gus became one of the world's top backgammon players, tried to make a living at the game in New York and abroad but felt the opportunities were too slim. Now a top professional in poker, Gus is widely known for his loose and aggressive play. "I play the players, not the cards," he says.

I like it when luck that happens. He still has enough chips to play as well so no real loss losing a day.

That's hilarious...!!! Big Smile Thumbs Up

I always liked Gus Hansen. pretty unassuming kind of guy, and quiet at the poker tables. No one ever suspects that he'll be the one to pull out the BIG hand and clobber everyone...

You gotta be careful of those quiet types.... Smile

So were the two of them playing eachother in Chinese poker or were they taking someone elses money. At $3000 a pop that would add up pretty fast and if one was fairing well it would be hard to walk away from winning. Now they're both in the WSOP if I'm not mistaken!

That's a very smart hedge; the WSOP ME is the most popular DONKament in the world, and despite it's potentially huge payout vs. buy-in ratio, the overlay isn't as big as it was half a decade ago around the peak of the poker boom (if I'm not mistaken). No point in regular nosebleed stakes cash game pros (both online and afk) worrying about playing every hand from the tourney's start if they can make maybe 20x as much as they might win in the world's most famous/popular MTT freezeout by playing in convenient, sitout-whenever-you-feel-like-it-without-fear-of-losing-value ring games.

On a side note, a friend of mine that flunked out of college his freshman year (because of playing on Starz constantly) is now an MTT big-shot (Ryan D'Angelo/g0lfa; Sharkscope/Cardplayer search him), although he can only play live now post-Black Friday (defecting out of the U.S. was too expensive I reckon, despite his 6 figure roll). He's made some huge cashes in the WSOP since going pro, but has been KO'd out of the Main Event on the first day every year he's played in it . . . at least one of those times he made it in via online satellite, but still, he considers himself (and I quote) "one of the best MTT players in the world", so . . . yeah he's been quite disappointed. Aww crap!

What has happened to Gus Hansen? About 10 years ago you would always see him run very deep in these televised tournaments and quite a few times he would be on the final table. Just goes to show the standard is a lot better now
