Poker players and hedge fund managers have come together to talk money at the MacroSports Conference this week. Taking place inside the Bellagio, a number of pros, including Mike "Timex" McDonald, have been exploring the link between investment and poker. Drawing on his own experience of staking players, McDonald explained to stock market experts how backers' money accounts for around 20%-25% of $62 million anted-up at this year's WSOP. However, while McDonald is at the forefront of the ever-growing investment market in poker, he feels "it's probably one of the least efficient markets" he's seen. Indeed, his latest venture, @BankofTimex, which offers odds on players, is one method McDonald feels can help the market to "correct itself".

don't know if this can be called investment- backing others is a pure gamble...you do try to back the players who have good looking stats- but those stats are of PAST results, and there is no guarantee that similar roi is maintained. furthermore- poker doesn't create value (like most of investments whether it's stocks, bonds...it represents business of some sort underneath the investment instrument)- it's just moving along of the money from player a to player b....actually if u add rake to the equation- the only sure winner is the one who takes the rake...

I agree with pochui here. If someone wants to do some shorth of investment, it is better to choose abother area. But if you can afford the money, (having in mind of course that every investment has its risks, but you are more prone to a loss on this one) you can try your luck there too.

Next to child molestors, elderly abusers, and drug dealers who sell crack and what have you to kids,....those hedge fund managers have to be one of the worst types of criminals on the face of the earth....
They've got so much money and power.... Enough to destroy the world's economy with their greed,....fail,...then get bailed out by the U.S. treasury and the taxpayer....???
They should all be tossed into Guantanamo Bay.....
