is position really important.  0
is position really that important in the lower stakes mtt's ?
i play mtt's up to $2.20 and sometimes i'll try a $4.40 one.taking that one aside, when i'm playing in the lower stakes people just don't seem to care about position, i mean they will call raise or even go all in with junk in any position,i just don't get them Confused
So is it really ?

Teddybears....of course it is........ as long as everyone realises that it is important.

The problem you have is the more you learn about poker the more you realise that loads of people who you play against have no idea of the principles and just keep calling ...and generally getting lucky!

I played last night and played the hand as the advice goes, managing bet sizes in terms of odds and pot making it so that with what the opposition had he should never have called me, yet he just kept calling me until he got lucky on the river, having had nothing all the way to that point.

Position is one of my strongest weapons in mtts mate so for me the answer is yes. Still I do not use it in early stages when most donks and bingo Queens are still alive ( yes, I also only play micro stakes unfortunately Angry ). It all depends on what range I put my opponents on on later stages. With the same speed I fold A10 utg ,I then bet in cut off with J8 ,pretending to have A10 lol. Again, depends on several things, and it does get me in trouble sometimes but its like bluffing. Using it with measure makes it more believable and therefore more profitable.

For me it is...really helps me last longer. The other thing is in tournaments people play better (most times) at higher BI's. Sure you've seen this also. It is a fact and unfortunately so for those who luck out chasing, continue to do so and wind up busting out. Took a bad beat this morning, hurt my stack, but, wasn't crippled and managed to recover playing position. The chaser did in fact bust out to someone else before being able to trap 'em. Finding the level of play in the Hot and Hotter series of tourneys seems to be much better these days. Just starting to cash again after a long drawn out down swing in NLH. Keep playin your A game...have seen your very positive results in the past playing this way. Blink

That's correct teddy when your playing low stakes your dodging more then just someone with a better hand then you. They play poorly, any two suited cards, any connectors, any position and especially in the rebuy games. It's a tough gig in the lower stakes and that's what makes it so challenging.

If anything it's even more important when your playing against maniacs. Being the last to act is a massive advantage against this sort of player.

Position as concept and on larger stakes especially on cash game is definately very important.

Still i can give you credit and agree that on low stake ike NL2,5 up to 10 there are so many calling stations and nutters that position has less importance.

Agree here

in the early stages of MTT... you can see anything

But in the late stages even in freerolls it becomes more important.
Especially when your in late position it s interesting to attack the stacks behind you... unless it s the bigstack (mostly a bingo player that was lucky)... with a little observation you notice his play...

So yes position is important

sure it is - even more so against maniacs and drunk russians...position at the very least helps you to save chips by seeing raises, re-raises and all-ins happening before you invest in the hand.
imo looking at others (especially at the micro/low stakes) is a bad strategy- they can only teach you how to lose, since they're only good at that

Yes it is. It gives you an advantage turning the game to your side more often
and easier than you are out of position. Bluffs work better, at least for me, when i play last Smile

Position is essential to winning or successful players. Being able to see everyone's moves and actions before you gives you an idea of what you should do with your own cards on that hand, plus sometimes you can use non premium hands in position whereas you could not out of position.

Position really means nothing if you have AA or KK. I shove the KK regardless,...and slow play the AA regardless...

In a games with a buy in of at least $1.10, playing position intelligently is the solid thing to do,...but as mentioned above, in freerolls or cheap buy ins,....it's a different story altogether... Position means nothing in a donkfest.

From my experience in the BrM freerolls, the .10c or .55c buy ins,...playing sensibly gets you no further ahead than playing like the idiots most of the rest of them are... In fact,....playing sensibly in those will only bring you a loss...

As for cash games with low buy ins.... not sure about those as I very seldom play them...

In the BrM/PS tourney I'm in right now,... I get dealt A4 off and bet the blind to see the flop,... The guy 2 over to my left raises to 100. I have A rag and fold.... Everybody else calls his 100...

Flop comes down,.....then he FOLDS!!!!!!!!! Without even CHECKING......JUST FOLDS....

The next guy bets 100,....everybody folds..... Flop was J 4 4....

Looked like it was MINE with a set....

Typical idiot.... Confused

position is important, no matter if others realise it is or not.

poker is a game of incomplete information. the more info you can gather before having to make your decision the better your decision will be. so if you are last to act you have more info than everyone else involved in the hand. this applies for every hand in every pokergame in all stakes in poker.

bad beats and bad decisions will still happen. just try to make the best decision in every hand you play.

probably try that next time i get AA or KK,although i usually shove the aces and slow play the kings. Big Smile

Yeah you may not be able to eke out as much of an edge using position on the low stakes tables, but if nothing else it might help keep you out of some jams by giving you info.

Better make a standard bet of 3 or 4 BB when you play....

You either play with your starting hand ( raise) or fold. Only when your on the SB or BB you make a cheap call

When you have monsters like AA KK you make your standard raise , if there was a raise in friont , reraise

The Godfather of poker Doyle Brunson quote: 'if i had the button every hand (best late position) i would be the richest poker player ever. or words to that affect..so positon is key on the long run . Heart

I dunno guys...

I think it really depends on the woman. You have to experiment and see which ones she likes and doesn't like.

With real poker yes, but online and in micro stakes position can bugger you over since the fish keep calling or dont fall for bluffs.
