...between a $3 rebuy and a $9 freezeout are huge, not that this is suddenly some revelation to me or maybe even you.

Any good player would be better playing the freezeout event in the long run, as you can be more certain of hand ranges, however the play is trickier too, gotta know how to reraise etc in the right spots.

In rebuys, especially low buy-in events, the play is unpredictable and you lose edge as opponents literally can have Q9s from EP or any number of medium trash hands. And when holding premium hands there is less value, especially on multiway pots, frequently with 4+callers. So, even good players lose edge as their skill is negated by constant callers with various hands, and only in the late stages with a solid stack are you likely to show your ability and capitalise on weak players.

I'd rather play a $3 freezeout tournament instead of a $1 rebuy for example...

Personally I hate playing rebuy games but it's only 1 rebuy and 1 addon allowed then it's fine if not no way... my stats for rebuy games are too poor so I was just wasting money and time when I played them...

the higher u go = the better players u meet (of course there are a few exceptions), no real surprises here, at first glance playing style seems to be more predictable and small stakes players who are fed up with donks think that it's better to play the higher limits...however i really doubt that- donks are the ones who call your AA/KK etc. with 72 off, 58 off etc. seriously, where the fcuk could u find such +EV spots in higher stakes games...(again a few exceptions exist)

On the face of it yeah of course you get idiots shoving random trash on AA etc. But you also get a tonne of suckouts.

Maybe I should have said higher stakes are more predictable, to a degree.

I guess if good players get knocked out and then can rebuy, it is a negative for the fish as they have to contend with a good player 'again'. And it gives the better player a chance to build a stack in a potentially weak field, BUT the variance in rebuys is very high usually due to the fact some people are crazy aggressive to start with. I have been on the good end and bad end of a donk table, once I ended up 2nd in a $10k event with that, and tonnes of times I have ended up rebuying several times only to get donked time after time.

I saw a guy some time ago playing a $1 rebuy literally shoving every hand. whenever losing rebuying, whenever winning shoving again and again.
Got to a point on which i didn't knew anymore if it was sad or funny to look at it. I faced him a couple of times holding premium hands that held so i could just sit down and relax watching the show.

The interesting part was, as soon as the rebuy period ended and right after the interval, the guy went on "sit out" mode and just started being blinded out. this when he just tripled up and way WAY before the money to be safe.

Did he had an heart attack or was playing on crashing plane or something??? why the hell spend over $30 in rebuys from what i counted and then just lose interest in the tournament.

Nonetheless i agree with the general rule here, the higher you go... the more serious opponents you face.

Those. Players you just want some more of. You would never thanks no to that.
When I used to play 1$ rebuy it was actually going very well only playing AJ suit or better. Almost you have to put all ur stack in the middl

playing rebuys is like playing the lottery. the amount of all ins is unbelievable you might as well not look at your cards and hope for the best. i would rather play a sit and go where there is more action post flop. the rebuys are not for me but some people love them Sad

People on rebuys just going all in when they lose all. And they keep coming back.

I dont understand people who will do so many rebuys that they will need to come to last table to take their money back.

If there is one rebuy allowed then its ok. Unlimited rebuys are just not good for players.

Or I dont understand people who have 100k chips and add on is 5k chips and they use add on lol

I have seen players playing rebuy, rebuying like crazy one after another.
Wondered if this is profitable and watched a couple of players when i had the time
and was grinding the tables often.
It turned out that these two regulars i was watching they were indeed profitable players,
by playing only rebuys.
Their goal was to get a big stack allowing them to dominate the tables and reach as much as deep
as possible, in order to get a profit after the rebuys made.
Not a successful strategy always, but their finishing places allowed them both to be in the
+thousands of profit.

This style of play, for me watching it, not playing, was nerve racking.
So definitely if you are going to play like that you need a different approach
and perspective than playing a normal tournament.
Self control is the topping in the list here.
If you are going to lose it,(control, going on tilt) after 4-5 rebuys dont event bother, since i counted once of them rebuying 17 times. Yep the unbelievable number for me of 17 times !!!

I have to agree that lower limits have more bad players in them (or beginners) and its also logical that better players move up to higher buy ins. But you should never assume this if you start playing because there are always exceptions.
If you start playing tournaments i also don't recommend to start with rebuy tournaments because people will be a lot more loose in the early stages.
Personally i rather play 3x a $3 mtt then one $9, spreading my chances and be prepared for some bad luck Smile

I dont know how to respond, some of my big winnings were really only from 1$ rebuy tourneys, I feel like im better player as soon i see alot of idiots around.
There is obv donkies too at the freezout type but still, i feel its better to play rebuy since the pay out is much huger, Smile

But i really have a Question.
You start a MTT, you got AQs at the CO...
2 players limps in, UTG & UTG+1. blinds are 15/30
3rd player rais to 120.

you rais to (120*4)+30+30=420 in chips, (u start with 1500 chips)

Small Blind shovs.. UTG calls and the first raiser CALL...

Whats your move? and why?

For me rebuys are much easier then freeouts.
I allways play overolled and do rebuys like hell, just to get that healthy stack plus allways the addon and then the game starts and after the first break you re allways at top 20% of the field.

My ROI at rebuys is so much bigger versus freeouts.
Rebuys is very easy money imo.

Me too, so many people don't understand the strategy of rebuys, makes it incredibly easy to come out of the rebuy period at the top of the field.
