5 ) Johnny Moss, first winner of a 'Main Event' WSOP
(1907-1995) A poker legend . His name is related to two 'big' as Doyle Brunson and ' Amarillo ' Slim when speaking of the first great players. In fact , Moss was the first winner of the WSOP Main Event (1970 ) , which repeated the following year and in 1974 , becoming the oldest player (66 years ) to get it.

4 ) ' Amarillo Slim' , one of the 'fathers ' of modern poker
Poker and gambling , his two great passions . On the green carpet got 4 bracelets at the World Series of Poker , including the Main Event , 1972 .

3 ) Phil Ivey , the Tiger Woods of poker tables
Known as the "Tiger Woods of Poker" , both by their skin color and for its early successes , has been , probably , and together with Daniel Negreanu , the most complete player of the last decade

2 ) Doyle Brunson, the first to win a million dollars

Along with Johnny Moss and ' Amarillo Slim' , one of the 'fathers ' of modern poker , got his first success when this card game was still illegal in the United States.

1) Stu Ungar, a genius who lost his ' all-in ' with drugs

i'm a bit surprised that there is no room for either Johnny Chan who nearly won 3 in a row main events or the player that beat him Phil Helmuth, they have got to be 2 of the greatesst ever.

Agreed.I mean these best of lists are usually subjection anyway but Chan and Hellmuth have to be on there as well. Those old pros I respect because they established the game but I can't relate to them really in terms of who they are and from having 'grown up with them'.

Negreanu has to be another contender - see what he deos in the next 5 years or so, but still a class act.

There's a few others but a lot of the modern players have done very well, but not gone on to be exceptional. Esfandiari is class BUT is he a poker legend? From the one drop alone I guess. Same for Dwan - cash game amazing, tournaments not so much.

Threads like this have been posted over the years and the conclusion in many cases was that it was hard to make a top if you do not have some clear criteria ti judge.

But all player that you mentioned i think deserve a place in the poker halll of fame, i think it's a much better concept than a top.
