I always avoid rooms with lot off Russians. Mothing against Russians but cann't prove it but i think allot off times they work together.

Tend to do quite the opposite....the more the merrier...many of them are very good on the csah table side...haven't played freerolls in a long time and don't plan to any time soon....that seems to be where most are having issues.

Both are naturalised American citizens who moved there as small children.

True. I am not sure which citizenship they have, probably dual, but Ukrainians consider them as "their" players.

What you have done here is use live tournament cashes, what this fails to recognise is that Moorman rarely plays live but is up $10,000,000 online

The live tourney ratings are the only available to us to compare players. I know that it is not fair to online players and cash-only players but it is the only more or less reliable criteria. And then your list of top players had Negreanu and Helmuth who are both terrible online players and at the same it had Moorman who is the god of online but pretty average in live games. So, my only point was that the above mentioned Russian players can be considered as "good", "very good" or "top" poker players from the standpoint of their personal achievements.

and Viktor Blom whilst being the best player on the planet doesn't make the top 200

Frankly, I am absolutely stunned (to put it mildly) that so many people consider Blom a good player.

The guy is a losing player online. And it is not his results only. I watched him play those challenges on PS and he played no better than those Russians that we are thrashing in this thread.
The guy is an average player live. One tournament win and couple of mini-cashes during whole career.
The guy admits that he doesn't know the poker math basics and plays only intuitively.
So, what makes him "the best player on the planet"?
The fact that some of his opponents said that he is a genius? But they probably said it to keep him on playing against them.
I don't know...

but statistically Russia per capita has very few good players

Per capita? Probably... I will not argue this statement especially as it will be impossible to calculate.
And then statistics, though a precise discipline, can be tricky.
Look at it this way. Poker became known to public in Russia only 10 years ago. And if you calculate the ratio of bracelets/year or winnings/per year for Russia for these 10 years, you might be surprised to find out that Russia is not as bad at poker as it seems to you.

Didnt have the time to watch Blom playing live in Full Tilt like schmoyster said
but the remark that he played terrible may not be valid.
I dont know anything about him, his scores, performance, winnings etc,
but i believe the specific games would have been a "hard labour" for him,
and wanted to bail out as soon as possible.
And my opinion is that this would have happened with any other pro player in such games Smile

So thanks to the Russian morons, i managed to make a healthy profit on Pokerstars today.... A noteable hand was when i had KJd. 4 limp ahead of me and i raise 4x from the button, they all call. The flop comes Ks 9d 10d. It's checked to me and i make a pot sized bet, 2 fold and 1 calls. Turn is 7c and this Russian makes a tiny bet, not even a 5th of the pot, i make a reraise the size of the pot and he calls. The river comes 3d, so the board reads Ks 9d 10d 7c 3d. He checks the river and i put him all in, HE CALLS! He shows K-10! LOL!!!!

You were lucky at river card. He could raise much more before and you would call him till river and on river if you didn't got flush you would lose alot of money...

He played slow but if he raised you would call anyway. Everybody would, flush draw str8 draw actually str8 flush draw and you even had top pair with decent kicker.

You were just lucky this hand...

But its nice to know that "magic" river didnt came for russian it came for you lol

OK where to begin Blom aged 19 made $11,000,000 multitabling Dwan, Ivey, And Antonius sometimes simultaneously in 3 months from a $2000 deposit.

Average live? He rarely plays live but won still won the PCA high roller for $1,250,000 he rarely plays online tournaments but won the SCOOP for $1,000,000.

He is not losing online he is up $6,000,000 (last time i looked) and is the biggest online winner of the year so far.

He is accepted as the best HUNL player on the planet, but even more amazing is the way he has learned to play the variants, Limit, PLO, PLO8, 2-7 triple draw always starting at the highest limits and going on to crush these games within months playing specialists who have years of experience. Phil Galfond who i am sure knows a lot more than me or you called him the most naturally talented player he has ever seen.

He is easily the best player around today possibly ever only Stu Ungar is in the same league.

He never had that much. His peak was in the end of 2009 with 6 mln. After that he had great swings. Won 4 mln from Durr, lost 3 mln to Ivey and 3 mln to Antonius. Finally he lost more than 4 mln to Hastings (fair to say that Hastings data-mined him before the game). With that he finished the first part of his career on FT. At that moment his balance was - (minus) 2,5 mln.
Then he played a little bit on PS but it looks like he was harshly restricted in the choice of games by the room. He was broke, owed money to a lot of people and probably played with PS money. He didn't play much, never many tables, never highest stakes and never PLO. I believe those were the restrictions of the room. Anyway, he was about breakeven on PS. So, up to the year of 2012 he was a losing player in the long run. All this info is available in his poker profiles. Can't give direct links because of the forum rules.

Yes. Comparing to some other guys from your list.

That's the one I mentioned. Nice win. The rest are mini-cashes. 2 or 3 of them.

I stopped to follow him after I watched his PS challenges. Got so disappointed in his lotto-gambler style. If he is really up that much after his return to FT then he is probably seriously changed for the better.

Yeah, yeah... Especially PLO. That's where he lost all his money.

Sure. Galfond destroyed Blom in the PS challenge. He wants to play him again. Why not tell him he is a genius?

Ungar is dead. Never saw him play. So I wouldn't know if your statement is valid.

I thought it was more you could be right wikipedia agrees with you, still for a 19 year old from $2000 against the worlds best still not bad.

Yes. Comparing to some other guys from your list.

Who play tournaments weekly he has played a dozen or so lifetime do i have to explain this to you?

If you play 12 and win 1 it is a much better return than playing 100 and winning 2.

The results are there to see what you think is "lotto-gambler" is actually an optimal heads up strategy.

Initially he lost money playing the worlds best at a game new to him.

And Blom has destroyed him on Tilt at PLO they are very evenly matched and Blom rates Galfond as the best PLO player around.

they are always calling if they need 1 card for str8. Even that means it only have 4 cards in deck for them...

Worst thing they are getting almost everytime str8 like that. I wouldnt mind if they are calling open str8 but not like that. He needed 5 he got 5... He even called 6 7 preflop...

Typical
