I think assuming these players are skilled (early on) is a big mistake. These types of games attract a large number of satellite qualifiers as well a (rich) donks.

If we were to assume they were skilled, then sitting waiting for big pre flop hands will make it very hard to get paid on them. You need to open pots / call multi-way pots in position with a much wider range than just premium hands when you're playing deep stack poker.

If we are looking to play 20-50BB poker then I'd advocate late registration to avoid any hard decisions in the first few hours. (I believe the $200 $50k is 180min late reg)

BTW Jess, I'm not saying either of us is correct, its a matter of opinion and everyone feels comfortable playing different strategies. Yours works for you and mine works for me Smile

Personally - I DO play the deep-stacked game, I'm merely pointing out that somebody posting a thread like this, may be a bit out of their depth. I'm not saying they're necessarily out-skilled, merely suggesting that IF they are out-skilled, they're better off playing with a shorter stack.

That said - when I play on my regular site, PKR, I know who the *sharks* are and if I'm unlucky enough to get a table full of tough regs, I know when I'm beat; and I'll favor big-ball poker, where I don't get out played on the turn/river.

It's just a matter of knowing where you sit, on a table, so to speak.
