In July 2007, Obrestad won a $4 buy-in 180 person online sit-and-go where she claims to have played almost the entire tournament without looking at her cards. She claims she peeked at her cards once during the tournament, when she was faced with an all-in bet. She did this to show "just how important it is to play position and to pay attention to the players at the table. Whats everyones oppinions on this? Could this be a good way to train ourselves for observation and improving our exploits. Maybe put some bluetac over our position on the screen just play one table and see how good we can get without looking at our whole cards?

eh, i believe thats quite normal nowadays. im sure many people playing poker dont actually give a s%(#(" about their hands
and most of the time youi got kicked playing mtts or multitable sngs it happens vs 27o or if ur lucky u run into quad 3's because someone decided to shove with 37s
god there should be software that autofolds some of donks range hands so u dont have to worry about someone having freaking full house every time dealer flops 277
but yea on a little more serious note, position is like 90% in poker, but its much easier to ab/use it live than online though, esp comsidering many donks dont give a %(" about position either so they wont respect your positon most of the time
I tried that in a heads up turbo game I failed and did not improve my game and will not recommend to players to do this as it's just money wasting, she just got lucky that's the only explanation I can give to that...

This was meant for full ring games and not for a heads up. At the full table position has much more importance. Heads up most players play most startinghands anyway, and no one will give his opponent credit for a strong hand, cause he has a random hand anyway.

This is not something new and as OP even said in his post this happend six years ago...
She proved back then we most of us know nowadays that in a mtt or sng, your position and stack dictate a lot on how that hand will unfold and it's not all about the strenght of your hand.

@OP - you know only half the story...the "untold truth" is that Annette stroke a deal with the players playing in the tourney that if she wins this sng without looking at her cards she will show off her boobs via webcam...so in a way everyone just paid $4 for their pleasure. no off you go to strike a similar deal- find a poker site infested with ladies and offer them "a once in a lifetime opportunity" to see your unshaved balls if they let you win sng without looking at your cards...

Position is off course one of the importants things in poker, but she can Show us this game a second time Annette Obrestad is one of the best poker pro women player in the world, but position playing was only one of a lot important things in this game. Reads, skills and lifetime education are also important.

Well I remember the game... I think it was organized by the melonmaster who was also at the tabless at that time...

I could never reach this level of skill to play the entire tournament in the dark. Annette is probably one of the best 'feel' players out there i.e. she has a natural instinct to where she stands in a hand. Amazing player and one hell of a talented poker player

i think i watched this game or one similar to this, when player didnt watch his cards. it was standard game. raise from late position and c bet or double barrell on dry boards. and pushing any two cards with 10bbs which is standard.

Annette achieved this because she is a VERY good player. I wouldn't recommend anyone doing this for a full tournament but doing so would certainly help in noticing patterns in opponents play. The major downside to this is obviously missing the value in playing any premium hands you may get dealt.

This has been mentioned too many times so far. I guess when you have some money to spare, you can try it just for the fun of it. Otherwise as a goal it is totally silly for me and doesnt worth at all. I find it silly even bragging for it.

LOL....at myself......... I was considering getting up from my comfortable poker seat, walking across the room and hitting the switch to turn the lights in the room off.........! Funnily enough, I more often than not play without the lights on, and one day, when I am brave enough, in the right tourney, will play totally in the dark.

It is important to know how to play with the position, but you can't take that as the only or main important factor of the poker game. You need to remember not every poker player will have the same amount of knowledge about the game, and, in a $4 buy-in game, it is very likely that you have many players who know few about the game who don't even know what is to play according to the position. So, those players will only play according to the cards they have, and if they have a pair of Jacks or AK, they won't feel affraid of a bigger pre-flop bet you can make, or a higer post flop bet, and they won't even take in consideration the cards tht will appear on the board if it happens for them to have a pair on the hand.

I tried 2 times at a DoN, 1 time itm and 1 time fail. I think i cud get a positiv roi on small stakes DoNs or atleast brakeven, but dont see the point.
Did it couple of years ago just to show how easy low stakes DoNs are.

I can see very clearly what article suggests when I am playing at multiple tables. For example,at one table I face a crucial decision regarding my life tournament when suddenly time alarm of another table erupts. With no clue at all raise,reraise and finally I full of frustration I shove and opponent folds giving me a huge pot. When I finally saw the bullsh1t I was holding I almost panicked. Lesson learned sometimes only matters what other player holds.
I played many times 'in the dark'. I closed all the windows in my room, rolled the curtains down, I even put on sunglasses and switched off the monitor too - so I can be sure absolutely no light will bother me while im in the dark. And while i was in the dark, I became the greatest imaginery pokerplayer in the world, I literary swam in billions of dollars and champagne plus beluga caviar on the french riviera.
I can play heads-up without looking at my cards, but probably I'll lose. But if serious, I think there could be only one simple strategy: Preflop: Raise from BB, check-call from SB Flop: Bet to check, reraise to raise, fold to 3 bet Turn: check-fold River: call small bets, fold
