And you can double up your chances with Omaha? If you hit a set with 7-7-7 at the flop or later, your aces are not good enough to bes star Ok, liitle joke, but in other games like black jack it is good to know and a important information.
The phrase "rule of thumb" is derived from an old English law which stated that you couldn't beat your wife with anything wider than ur thumb.
which totally makes sense though.
This is an old wives tale i.e. not true.
Rule of thumb comes from flour milling where the miller would test if the flour was ground to the required fineness by rubbing some between his thumb and forefinger. In other words he/she was using their experience rather than a precise measurement. Which is what 'Rule of thumb' means.

I knew there were milions of combinations but i never knew the exact number, i guess for that we have dedicated software than can calculate odds automatically.
As for the pocket aces hand i knew it, in fact 216 is the total number of starting hands that you can get.

These facts are always pretty phenomenal and i always wonder who first thought of researching them. The odds of getting pocket aces seem quite large so no wonder i play for so long and still dont get to see them. Love these interesting facts and please keep posting them

dear Henryminute
There are only 2 ways of gettimg knowledge By reading and by experiencing things. Whatever you read becomes part of your knowledge and the avaliation of the interest is very personal and diferent from eachother. What is not particulary interesting for you, might be for someone else
It's not that your thread was uninteresting. In fact, just the opposite. I found it interesting that the very same facts were in a thread on another site just a few days earlier, a bit of a coincidence.
Nothing wrong with spreading the knowledge but if you did indeed see it there you might have said "I read this on another poker forum the other day............."
If you didn't see it there, then it is indeed a coincidence.

that's wierd, in my calculation I would say that aces comes every 221 hand not 216... perhaps you could explain how you are calculating this or how do you know its a fact?

I would think that the chance that you first hole card is one of the 4 aces is 4/52, and that the chance the second hole card is one of the other 3 aces is 3/51.
So the chance of AA is (4/52)*(3/51) = 1 / 221 so I think you are correct...
