hahaha funny situation really- actually i remember that this happened for real, even better actually- last year world record attempt @stars (or some other major tourney, memory glitch here)...so there was a late registration and a turbo or even hyper turbo structure, lots of places paid, bubble burst and late registration was still on so u just had to register and you're guaranteed a prize...very odd situation, i played from the start, and my only worry was not to fall out, actually those who regged later had an advantage of a gtd prize.

Probably depends on the site and their rules. Havent had a situation like that in another site than Microgaming. There when there is late registration, it closes after the bubble. Even if there is plenty of time to go for the scheduled late registration.

yeah its rare for it to happens and it happens in lesser tournaments at odd hours when there are not many entries. But i guess as said by the posters above, for microgaming network.
On another note late registration is a means to get other people to play and get a bigger player pool, let's say it just started and we have 40 entrants for 50 prizes, late reg will still be on for some level, depending on blind.
Just think of late reg as how much minute left before the tourney start with no more players.
