As Ukraine tension flares, Russia test-fires a ICBM

Ukraine crisis: Latest news

Russia said it had successfully test-fired an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile on Tuesday, with tensions high over its seizure of control in the Crimea and its threat to send more forces to its neighbour Ukraine.

The Strategic Rocket Forces launched an RS-12M Topol missile from the southerly Astrakhan region near the Caspian Sea and the dummy warhead hit its target at a proving ground in Kazakhstan, the state-run news agency RIA cited Defence Ministry spokesman Igor Yegorov as saying.

The move follows Russia's decision to send troops into the eastern Ukraine region of Crimea, claiming the lives of ethnic Russians living there were threatened by the political disorder in Ukraine.

I remember when Putin starred in a famous TV show here back in the '60s as Russian Illya Kuryakin in:

The Man From U.N.C.L.E.

I dont want argument with you,i respect you alot, but with this i must disagrees, its all about interest of western countries, they bring democracy(LOL) in lybia, irak, syria and destroy all this counties for interest(OIL).People in these country are poor and starving under constant security threats.while over billions and billions of dollars in unpaid debts to this countries, they doing same thing in ukraina, its not about freedom or demokracy, its about money and interest, but it was enough, they want to f**k with Russia,so Big Bear wake up and say-not anymore M:therf::ckers,not in my backyard

You won't believe this penilimed,...but I TOTALLY agree with you on how the U.S. and Britain constantly meddle in other country's affairs....

...but please though don't confuse Canada with those 2 countries.... We are more known as being peacekeepers...not invaders...

There's not enough wealth in Ukraine for the U.S. and Britain to interested for those reasons...but here in Canada we have a HUGE Ukrainian population numbering about 1,000,000 people...

Yanukovych,...the parasite Russian Olygarch's puppet leader in Ukraine destroyed that country and sucked BILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars off...! Then had 100 Uke's murdered, and now has ran off like a coward.... Thumbs Down

Yes canada is great country and many croats live and work there and all say is great country with nice people, but again i say i disagee with this issues in ukraina,im not for yanuković,i hate all corrupt leaders and thiefs,we have in coratia maybe worst situation, but this is ukranian problem and they must work on this problem alone in elaction, not killing policemans and kick out legal elect president.Tell me if few thousands demonstrants in U.S try do this, how many people dies trying this?ps-sorry for my bad english,i play poker and try explaim you,im distract,i hope you understand what i mean

Again,...you are correct. There have been many instances in the recent history of the U.S. where the authorities have not tollerated any demonstrations and have even killed people for it...

Google: Kent State or Chicago Riots

I can see that Putin does NOT want NATO on the doorstep. Test firing an Inter-Continental Missile certainly demonstrates THAT... Big Smile< lol...

There are MANY MANY Russians within Russia itself though that are telling Putin to get the troops out of Crimea and Eastern Ukraine...

It's understandable that Putin wants to protect the naval bases and fleet stationed there... The U.S. or Britain would do the same thing.... It all sounds rather hypocritical to me...

...us here in Canada though,...we will speak up to protect freedom, and against corrupt governments elsewhere in the world... It's just our nature... Smile

..................................

Edit: Funny coincidence,.... Just as I hit the send button to post this,.... I heard a jingle sound from my Party Poker lobby,.... when I looked,... I made an achievement by knocking out 4 players at once...

The achievement said: Gone Nuclear..... Shock

I hope that's not a bad omen.... Evil

Hey penilimed,.... I saw a documentary a few months ago about Croatia and it's history... It looks like a beautiful and cozy little country... Very intersting...!!! I didn't know it was corrupted.

You might remember that Canada was over there in the war acting as peacekeepers between Serbia and Bosnia... Smile

demodawggy, in coming weeks there will be a lot of weird news about Russia in Western media. And you know why.Don't take them too seriously. Only half of them will be true and even those true news reports will be twisted in such a manner, that they will cease to be true. But you have a great advantage - you can always ask me what is true and what is not. Blink

Russia tests ICBM roughly once a month. Does Reuters report every such launch or did they decide to report just this one because it coincided with the Ukrainian crisis?

The missile was sent to Sari-Shagan target range in Kazakhstan. This is one of the many target ranges operated jointly by the Russian and Kazakh military in accord with intergovernmental agreements. Every second launch is aimed at Sari-Shagan. Did Reuters report any panic in Kazakhstan?

Just WHO exactly is he WARNING.....??? US in the WEST...???

Can you make an allowance that he is not warning anybody? That it was just a scheduled launch?

Oh hey,.... One always has to be on guard not to be propagandized.... I did not know about the scheduled tests....

ANOTHER great reason to be a member of BrM.....!!! Inside information from ALL over the world....!!!

Fire away,....just don't let any stray missiles hit Borat's house.... Smile

Let's do a 'Now' and 'Then' pic comparison....

Mmmmmmmmm......... Looks like the same guy to ME.... Even complete with a snajper rifle.... Blink

The independent poles show that 60% Russians support sending troops to Crimea and 40% are against.

There is much more to protect in Crimea than just a Naval base. Are you aware that since the 18-th century the Crimea was a Russian territory and only in 1954 Khrushev gave it to Ukraine as a gift? Aww crap! 60% of its population are Russians (Ukrainians - 24%). Also, a lot of real estate in Crimea belongs to Russians. It is a resort area and many Russians purchased houses by the sea there.

Great to read here such information.

So much nonsense about Russia/Putin in western press.

BTW i think that among my coworkers, friends, neighbors etc
the percent of Russians supporting sending the troops even higher than 60%

And the percent of annoyed of the USA government previous and present actions is closer to 100%

I just will say that now Bulgaria has a socialist government which supports Russia. I am very happy that we support Russians because, thay are our friends. We have the same alphabet and almost the same language, culture and traditions.

Putin is the greatest politician in the world who protects and loves his country very much! Worship

There's a lot of beauty and wonder in the world,...even the Universe....

...but there's also a lot of evil and ugly too...

...but in the grand scheme of things,...this is how I see it...

There's 2 ways that things exist... things that are alive,...and things that aren't alive.

Dirt and rocks and water....etc aren't alive

Plants and animals are alive...

PLANTs are PLANTED (Stationary)

ANIMAls are ANIMAted (Moveable)

Organisms evolutionarily displace and or replace organisms

Russians in the 1,500s largely displaced my Tater ancestors from the North Caucasus region, including Crimea, to gain access to an unfrozen sea, and ultimately the world, for trade, and to project Russian power....and occupied somebody elses land.... Do I like THAT...? NO...!

Did my Tatar ancestors do the same to any previous populations...? I'm not sure,...but possibly. I will find out...

Do I like what Putin is up to...? No

Do I like the crap OTHER countries do, including the UGLY history of my OWN country Canada regarding the original native peoples,...which still persists to a lesser degree even today...? NO...

...but the past is the past...

Can poker be both and ugly and a beautiful game...? Yes...

Synopsis / Conclusion: $H!T Happens....

Glad to hear Russia's ICBM test firing was pre-scheduled and regular. I thought it was a one off in response to NATO's and John Kerry's message to Putin... I wouldn't want to have seen the cards get blown ALL over the room if NATO and Russia started banging heads militarily... Big Smile

Just Google for "Tatar yoke"

Neither do I. I don't remember that I would support any of his decisions until now. But sending troops to the Crimea... At this stage, while Russian troops are in Crimea only, I support this decision. If they are ordered to move outside the Crimean region even an inch - I'll reconsider my position.

PS. There is a peculiar thing... I don't agree with Putin's position on LGBT movement but I support sending troops to the Crimea. Does this fact make me a militaristic homo Confused

I did not know about the scheduled tests....

And this is to prove my point:

"A Pentagon official Caitlin Hayden told CBS News that the U.S. detected the launch of the Russian ICBM near the border of Russia and Kazakhstan. Notifications were made ahead of time in accordance with normal procedures. The official said the launch is viewed as non-threatening and is not connected to what is going on in Crimea."

You can Google the rest.

We are not fighting here or even not arguing. There is nothing wrong about talking politics a little bit in an off-topic thread on a poker forum. Helps to see things more clearly when you have versatile opinions on the situation.

he just wants to say that he was in a war,and won.

   0
...The worst thing for me to do, would be to get into this political debate - because if I do, I'll never be able to stop.

So I'll keep my opinions short and sweet... The Ukraine is in a bad way at the moment and is in need of help, but so are many other countries across the world. Countries such as the UK and US do have a major role to play in helping, but the help must come from inside the country in question to have any sort of hope of lasting, positive change. Countries with poor infrastructures such as many of the emerging African countries are who need the help - practical things that we (the western world) are in a perfect position to help with, but NOT to "bring democracy".

The Ukranians seem to want help, but then the native Russians living in Crimea want the Russians help too.

Now we have the two most powerful men in the world, Obama and Putin, trying to score points against each other, rather than doing anything worthwhile, while the most powerful women in the world, Angela Merkel, sits by and does nothing.

There is no easy way out of this....
