The NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship won't be taking place this year according to Mori Eskandani.
The President of POKER PROductions recently told that the TV tournament hasn't been commissioned by the American network; however, he did state that the event isn't going away completely.
Although he refrained from saying too much, Eskandani promised that there will be some "exciting news" about the event later this month.
Whether this means that another TV channel will be sponsoring the championship is unknown, but if past popularity is anything to go by then it's likely we could see the tournament continue to thrive.

Gotta say that whole tourney has gotten pretty boring, it's made for TV so the structure dictates that there will always be lots of ''exciting'' all-in hands which gives various faux ''celebrities'' the chance of making a deep run occasionally, like Shannon Elizabeth.

Have to say that few times I saw The NBC Heads-Up Championship on TV I found it quite interesting. The players were very well picked. Both players from different poker eras plus celebrities. It was exciting to watch them playing in a type of game which cannot be seeing often(heads up) .Bonus the talking:You could see them talking, teasing each other and in general observe the little things that make each one of them special. The tactics weren't that obvious because the players in early stages looked for fun but later stages guns came out. Too bad hope next year to comeback.

Thats a shame, this has been a bit of a yearly tradition and always attracted big names. I can only think with big big money tourneys and the length of time it takes to get through this, alot of pros will have said they cant or wont do it.

This tournament was good to watch in the final stages and i will miss this. Watching Mike Matusow beating Phil Hellmuth in the final was a particular highlight of mine. Phil is never a good loser and to see the look on his face when Matusow hit his flush was priceless

i will miss seeing the NBC National Heads-Up Championship in 2014 a lot!!! this is my absolute favorite poker tournament on tv ...the one year of after black friday was bad and now a other year without it sucks that tournament is way better then the wsop in my opinion...the only thing i miss is my man Norman Chad & Lon McEacher which makes the broadcasts of the wsop fun to watch
