Maybe some greek site related to poker launched some kind of tourney only for greek players awarding the winners with a ticket to this tourney, it seems a very simple and logic explanation, don't you think? It's easier to think anything else, and it's even harder to believe that, for coincidence, it happened that only greek players registered until this moment, but it's possible... Ok, forget what i wrote, it's rigged Big Smile

In this case the tourney interface would show the satellites for this tourney. And it does not. Weird.

Greeks have a law that everyday if they win money they have to pay some taxes and pokerstars has to take money from them if the bankroll is going higher then 100d per day winning.. so this way they dont have to pay taxes or not all of them Smile I doubt that they will be even playing this tournament atleast not all of them

haha it sucks when you got 8 players from one country at your tables and you have to play against them, it is an understatement and you will see them put pressure on you even though they may not know each other. Just doing it for their country. Like country man first rather than outsiders.

Anyway have fun at the tourney if you registered. Yeah and greek law sucks. Damn legislation and law everywhere in the gambling world now!

i pity those fools who cannot beg enough to receive $1...but then again there must always one who is best of the best, tops the charts, beats the crowd, cleans the toilets...oh wait that doesn't belong here...ships the moola, shaves the balls till they reflect the sun right from Mozambique to North Korea...

this might be true- so you wanna say that if some dude wins say $150, but he registers for an upcoming tourney they will not be taxed, and when the tourney comes, they unregister and register for another upcoming tourney, right? sounds shrewd if this is possible

not only might be true Blink it is Smile and of course if you win like maybe average 100d a day and then one day you win 500d and the next one you lose, you dont want that you get taxed for the 500d so you register and then you can unregister when you lose money so you wont be taxed Thumbs Up pretty hard for the greeks...

Not got the time to go into a lot of detail right now... But the whole tax thing you're talking about cannot be right. If you register in a tournament, it is not a tax deductible expense until the money has left your account (ie, when the tourney starts)... Before then, it would have to be classed as a prepayment, or cash deposit - both of which are not tax deductible.

If that were the case, all Greeks could use it to get interest free loans... All they'd have to do is play no poker all year, and on the last day register in $50k worth of tournies, wait until the tax year is over, then unregister. Then they would have a tax rebate of thousands, that they wouldn't be liable to pay for a whole year...

Far too easily exploitable.

they are apparently watching only the bankroll so basically the money has "left" your account so if you have a bankroll of lets say 500dollars and you register for a 500dollars tournament so where they gonna take the money from? Smile

I havent so much read about the stuff but I would say that the money you get from normal job is different that the money you get from the poker.. and from poker everyday your bankroll grows more then 100d you get taxed

Wow, that would be a major loophole...
Did you Sherlock this yourself, or did you hear about it?
Quite the deduction if you did...

Taxing profits from poker just doesn't make any sense. The site are being charged tax on their profits, so the rake is being taxed... but after that, for every dollar won, a dollar is lost.

It just doesn't make sense to me.

Its not a story that I invented myself I dont have that good imagination Big Smile I heard this on an other forum where finnish guys were speaking about the same thing where greeks were logging in the high buy ins tournaments.. Taxing from poker is pretty basic imo, like few years ago everything you earned from poker was taxed in finland, now that its eu its not anymore but before that it was... I think that now when greeks have a pretty bad economy situation they are taking from everything they can.. Its completly different taxes then taking from the rake

I just don't understand it! If you register for that tournament, then you have to play it, otherwise if you unregister how you will save the taxes? Unregistering will give you back the money into your account. It doesn't make sence to me!

Probably they registered hoping to win a big pie from the prizepool, because there will be less players. Or its just a trick. When players see everyone is from Greece, noone will register. It is weird also no satellites for that tournament!

Just register for a MTT that takes place one or more days in the future, but unregister in time, and do the same thing for the next day. Until you have a losing day, and just leave the money from unregistering, so you never exceed the taxable amount on any single day...

Did you notice this is an MTT for a week in the future..? Plenty of time to park the money...
