Hi bankrollmob!
I've been into poker for over a year, started playing just with play money to get to understand the game, however, with the no risk factor; you get a lot of players playing anything.
So I've dibbed and dabbed depositing £7 here and there on PS. However, little success, highest win was $70 in a micro-stake tournament with a $500 or so guarantee. But that was during the time I was in full time work, now at university. I don't want to be depositing money just to burn, so was looking to take it further. I'm not expecting to be winning ££££s but at least minimising my loses and if anything becoming a somewhat more profitable player.
I'm looking for any good strategies, whether that be a book, a video or advice from people on this site. I'd appreciate any feedback.

Hi there, Macubaas. It's not a case of not wanting to deposit, I'm willing to deposit. I'm just hoping not to lose it in a few weeks! I will look to take advantages of the offers. And in regards to some instructional videos, I had found some, but I've often find with some that they are so tight, that I'm short stacked by the time anything decent comes up to play.
For example, today I was playing in the EPTLive free roll, and had AKo with only $950 (average stack was 4k) I went all in, called by 2 people. (One with 92o!) and surprise surprise, I missed the flop and didn't hit any of my outs. I suppose that's more bad luck, but surely I'm going wrong elsewhere?

Spend a few weeks writing notes on low/micro stakes SNG's. Since you are playing such low stakes, purchasing a program is probably not worth it, there are a lot of free programs out there that track statistics.
I would suggest depositing what you can afford to lose. Divide what you deposit by 100 for SNG's buy-ins, this will allow a big gap for learning purposes. Take advantage of freerolls, a few pennies or dollars will benefit your small bankroll. It's all about learning how to minimize your risk/losses and self control.
Once you are able to control your tilt, you can probably move onto cash tables.

Hi Xblindsoul,
thanks for the advice. I had not heard about the dividing my deposit by 100 before, but it sure makes a lot of sense. I've downloaded the Freepoker database, but just need to configure it for my settings to get it running.
In terms of experience, I've made 4 cashes and won 2 freeroll tournaments on FTP when they ran the daily UKfreeroll for $15. So really not that experienced. But I do appreciate the advice.

I've noticed you talking about your AKo vs 92o. Yes you are ahead, but doesn't mean you will always win. Let's say I asked you to choose 2 numbers from 1 - 3. You're a 67% favorite, but doesn't mean I can't win 10 times in a row and you have no money left to play me.
But if we ran it 100 times, you would most likely come out on top. Some sites suggest you divided your SNG by 25 but i suggest 100, for learning purposes.
The problem with poker is even if you do everything right, sometimes you lose, the key to sucess is volume, you have to overcome the variance and that is only possible if you have a safe and comfortable bankroll, that can stand the downswings.

Check youtube videos just type poker for beginners, take it from there start small and check how to play after a while say 1 month or so when you are not trembling when loading table you can start looking for specific poker videos that you want to improve your game. Like post flop analysis, how to play aggressively on the turn etc.
Just start small and read everything on the web when you search for poker tutorials and apply them, work on your mental game too. Just go for it step by step.
PS: I did not do those steps I know I should but i work full time so just play for fun!

You can learn a lot about playing poker if you join poker stars poker school on line, when you join you can play the poker school freerolls and sometimes they offer chances to win tickets to tourneys by completeing some of their courses. this should really help you learn. good luck in the future and stick with university.
Play more free rolls and build a bankroll that way plus no risk involved its all about processing information on a table if there is 3 or 4 betting than you better have AA or KK but luck is also a big factor in Poker a lot of times the worst hand pre-flop wins

Well you've certainly come to the right place...! Do all of what the guys have mentioned above, and along with a little practice things will start going your way more often...
I've learned lots of little tricks since hooking up here which have drastically improved my game...!
And as mentioned,...take advantage of all the freerolls, PSO ticket offers,...and some of the no deposit and deposit bonuses. That'll build up your bankroll while keeping deposits to a minimum...!
Also,...keep an eye out for many of the various promos on the sites...
Also, maybe pokerstars is not the right place to start learning. The freerolls are not educational, to say the least, and there are few games with low buyins. This makes it expensive to learn, you'll have a lot of loss to make up for, when you're finally start earning.
Try Party Poker; lots of freerolls, $0.10 MTTs, and MTTs that do not reach their guarantee (i.e. +EV).
Don't expect to improve enough, just by playing a lot. Study is required.

Cheers, Crash; unfortunately I'm not eligible for the poker school seeing as I am a 'bronze' star. Thank you for the kind words, I'll most certainly be sticking with university as I thoroughly enjoy the course.

no deposit bonuses that bankrollmob has to offer is a good way to start (and ther are some similar websit´s with more ndb out there)
If you decide to make a deposit i recommend to search for the best sign up bonus available and also with a low rake/tournament fee which is very importent at the micros imo !
for example: i had a ndb at poxer770 and i made 70$ from it (to make a cashout i have to make a min.deposit) ther was a promo runing: deposit 20$ and get 20$ free.(no restrictions) and after i made the deposit and send them my id they gave me a nother 15 $ free only for the id ! and i withdrawal 115 $

Ross all you have to do to join poker school is just register and you get to play freerolls that can get you into the premier poker league,which can lead to winning a bit of money and you also win some playing in the freerolls so they are worth it. There's a drop down box at the top on pokerstars that says poker school just click on that it's all there. gl at the tables
