Drawacards 20 x $10 Omaha experiment  0
OK - so I like me some $10 Omaha. After winning a $200 ticket the other week it got me thinking that I'd be better off with 20 x $10 than 1 $200 one. I busted out of the $200 game with no cash so I thought I'd try it out to see.. I know it is not great brm really - but I have had some reasonable success with $10 buy in Omaha earlier this year and thought I'd record my success/failier for 10 mob points.... er, I mean for my fellow mobits. Blink

I was getting short on my BR due to cashing out too heavily the other month and decided play a last ditch $10 buy in $1000 gtd MMT on PP before grinding up my entry for the next one in freerolls or waiting untill payday before making a deposit to fund my experiment. I won the first one anyway, which funded the rest. I played 10 x $10 buy ins with prize pools of either $1000 gtd or $500Gtd. It did not go as well as I would have liked, or as well as it did a few months back when I played at similar level, but a profit was turned, which I guess is important. I was out close to the bubble a few times also.

Game / Finish / Prize
1 / 1st / $212
2 / 0
3 / 0
4 / 0
5 / 0
6 / 1st / $100
7 / 0
8 / 0
9 / 0
10 / 5th / $45

So - at the halfway stage - overall buy in = $100... Total prizes = $357. I also picked up about $25 from a coupe of $1 and $ 2 buy in Omaha games and also lost $40 in 2 x $20 buy in games... which I am trying to stay clear of as it was them that busted me the other month. lol.

I have 10 more to play to complete my expt.. Hopefully I'll place alittle more often in the next 10... but I'd take 2 more wins for sure... I would have predicted maybe 1 win and 3 or 4 places.. Writing the result down like this is scary - there are a long runs without placing which looks terrible. Main thing is that the next 10 are now paid for already - so any placements at all will be pure profit.. gotta fancy at least one more win with a 2 or 3 placements in the next 10! Hope so anyway.

Smile Thumbs Up

hi,
I don't play much on pp so can you tell me.on average, what positions get paid?and how many people play?
Do you play with only first or second in mind or do you consider making the money if things aren't going great?I ask that because a first gave you $100/$212 yet a fifth gave $45.If the buyins weren't massively different maybe a little tweaking if you are near the money could make a big difference.
Saying that,if you have made $257 profit from 10 games then that seems to be pretty good,if it continues. From a totally financial point, if you didn't get the $212 in your first game you would be in a bad position.
If you can get first/second place on a regular basis you will stay in profit, and i would say you should be getting better over time so good luck to you.

Tell me about it.. I know. I wasn't going to include it in the results but it is kinda part of the same run of games, so I'll give my self that one. It pays for the experiment anyway. With 10 more to go I will disappointed if I do not get at least 2 or 3 more finishes. But hey - let's see. Should take a few days, maybe all week to play 10 of these as there are only a few per day. Playing some $1 and $2 buy ins today for a bit until the next $10 one comes round. Might lay off for a day or 2 as i have other stuff on and work. But looking forward to trying to complete the next 10 games.

Oh - and I'll post the results - even if it does turn out to be 10 x $0.00 placements. lol Hoping to turn a profit though. Smile

Just to add - the bonus points earned from the buy ins at this level add up pretty quickly too. There are some reasonably good buy ins to freerolls for spending these.

I vary it about klash. Sometimes I tighten right up round the bubble just to get into the money (although that didn't work in the ten games above too well apart from the last one) - Sometimes I play the game, sometimes I take donkey style chances with premium hands to see if I can double on up into the safety zones. I've been called a donk and a fish a few times.. but you have to take your chances sometimes. If you know what hands are pretty good then you can be sure you will hit from time to time. Sometimes you get sucked into the betting and get pot committed and have to go all in or call a shove... sometimes you get lucky and others complain and call you a donk - I don't care - I don't claim to actually be any good at the game - lol... (I see it happen to me all the time too anyway). I do a l lot of folding. Sometimes it's a grind through the bubble and sometimes you get a good run and lead the thing for a while... other times you just plain bomb out.... trying to make this happen less often.

The game sizes vary from 40 to about 200 people, depending on the game and the day and the time of day. places paid are usually around the top 10 to 20 % I think. I try to play in the games where there is already a prize pool guarenteed.

I love playing the mixed games when i am not playing well in poker in general and just play like crazy in the mixed games, like no fear of losing any money. Like setting out 10 dollars to lose to that game and have fun. Though i know some of it basics and tends to win sometimes so I have enough to make me enjoy my game. Anyway good luck with those games guys have fun at the tables.

Good play DRAWCARD. It's always nice to see a mobbits do well, and on this occasion, despite not many placings, you have made a reasonable return on your investment. I find Omaha quite interesting, having only played my first game this week and cashed in (only a dollar but came in at high 20's out of 1000 which I thought was quite good) to the point that I will be studying the game to improve.

I remember the first time I played Omaha, I kept getting the winning hand ( or so I thought) but I kept losing , I'd go WTF I beat that hand, but I lost. Then I found out you only use 2 hole cards. Big Smile I was using all 4 Big Smile So after that i learned. Thumbs Up

You did good so far so i guess i should say that you must keep up the good job, right Smile

It's great that more and more people start playing omaha, it can be much more profitable than nlhe.

Hi drawacard,
Any more progress in your Omaha games?Would be interesting to hear how the next games went, even if it didn't go well.

The next ten were awful. lol.

11 - 15th - £17.50
12-19 - 0
20 - £17.67

So - total buy in $200.00
- total won $357.67
- profit $157.67

I did also play 3 $20 games and won $140... and won about another $100 through various $1, $2 and $5 games.. so on the whole it has been a good week ending in me being up in my bankroll and making about £100 withdrawal.

On the whole the experiment was a success in that I made a profit overall after the 20 games, but I had some really long runs without getting into the money which was worrying. I think I played the last half of the games too impatiently or put too much pressure on them, or played too many too quickly - not sure. Although I made a $157 profit out of the 20 games I kinda feel like I had a bad run.... If it hadn't of been for the 2 1st place finishes it might have gone wrong. I did not get into the money as many times as I was hoping to, although the wins were good.

I'm gonna think about what to do for another expt.. maybe another 10 of these first or even some $1 buy ins for a while. I'll take my time with these though - I think I rushed through the last half a bit in the above test... which led to poor results.

Well you have got yourself a very nice profit there Drawacard, you seem to do well in the omaha ones so you should stick at them (at least for now ).What other games are you playing as i don't seem to meet you at the tables mate. ?

I don't really play cash games teddybears, I'm too bad at it and things never seem to go my way and I get impatient. I think I am improving, but not played a lot though. I mainly play omaha or some holdem tournaments - $1 buy in stuff mainly and sometimes a bit higher.. I loose a LOT and get knocked out of tournies all the time, but do alright and even win sometimes... I don't claim to be any good but I enjoy it (sometimes a little boring in long tourny, but hey). I've probably had my best success in these $10 games because less people tend to play them and people play a bit tighter and actually fold sometimes if you raise - lol. A bit of sit and go can be a good warm up or practice too. I quite like these bounty games too - had mixed success in those.

I like to cash out some dosh sometimes.. that way if I go bust I end in a profit anyway. Then I can grind up in freerolls or $1 games to get buy ins for the games I like to play. Smile... If successful then repeat. Smile

What do you play?

Congratulations on your wins. That profit was a very nice one.
As teddybears said, since you did so good with them, there is no need
to experiment any more. Just keep playing these and with a little luck
you will score some good money.

Yea I worked my way through those missions a while back.. I think there are some newer ones recently introduced - they look a lot harder than the earlier ones and seem to be cash table ones.. lol

I play a variety too... although I like to stay away from the FL holdem!! That is just crazy crazy- people just seem to bet bet bet with all sorts.. I can never work out what's going on and always loose.. lol.

Considering that you only played 20 games you did awesome, i mean on such a small sample and the variance of PLO you could have expect to even be on minus lol

I think PLO is a lot more interesting and action packed poker game than FL Holdem, plus you can win a lot more Dollar Dollar Dollar on PLO!

I played a few more tonight - placed in one. Placed in the $2 Omaha game too. Got knocked out of a few smaller things. Doing alright in a 7 card stud game at the moment, which is fun. I think I do better more often with Omaha rather than stud, but I like the change sometimes and the betting is a different pace.

------------
.... Thumbs Up yea! Big Smile won the FL 7 Card Stud one too.. Smile $10 entry, 36 in it. Cool

DRAWACARD (apart from the fact I have just realised your screen name is drawAcard and not DRAWCARD ) that's a pretty good return on investment in your Omaha games. In relation to cash games, it is an art to remain patient , an art I am trying to work on, remembering to play the cards you have more than playing the situation, which is where you win big in tourneys, so a somewhat different strategy.

See you at the tables.
