What to Expect in a Poker Tournament  0
One of the most important decisions you make as a tournament poker player takes place before you go anywhere near the table. First you need to decide which tournament is right for you, and there is a dizzying array of opportunities to suit all.

-Most importantly you should consider the following:

-Choose the correct buy-in for your bankroll
In order to play your best poker, you must be in a game in which you feel comfortable. If you play too big or too small, you will not be able to focus on correct strategy. You neither want to be playing with money that you cannot afford, nor with such trifling stakes that you will not pay sufficient attention.
-Select the correct game
PokerStars offers tournaments of all sizes and across all poker variants. There are re-buys and freezeouts; turbos and hyper-turbos. Pick the right one for you. The most popular are No Limit Texas Hold'em freezeouts but there are many other forms of tournaments you may prefer.
-Make sure you have enough time
The idea of playing poker tournaments is to win them, and in order to do so you need to still be around when the final hand is dealt. This can take some time. Make sure you set aside enough free time to play the tournament, which will mean reviewing similar tournaments in the PokerStars client to find out roughly how long they have taken and cancelling all plans until then.

Yeah i completely agree with what you are saying if you cannot play the higher buy in due to bankroll , do not, as this is a sure way to play with scared money and lose money on the way to the upper limits. If you play MTTs you should multi tables and every time you lose in one tourney you can just pop up another one as they are running constantly just do not let one big win or one knockout on the other tourney to affect the next tourneys or the current remaining ones. Cheers good luck mate!

G'day mate

Dude do you copy and paste that directly for PStars ?
I read like something directly of the poker school site area.
It was a great advertisement for them though.
I do agree with what the message of the post was overall.

Welcome to the forum Thumbs Up
wishing you all the best.

Wow Bizla is that you in first place? if so very well done!
Kinda expensive buy-in btw, specially for a 5k guaranteed tourney but looking at how many runners it had i see why the prize pool didn't rise much. Still it's a great result.
I bet there weren't many "maniacs" playing at that entry fee.. they usually cannot afford to go all-in every hand when $26 are already at stake...

now that i saw Bizla's update (look couple of posts above) i edit my informative statement:

OP: ...What to Expect in a Poker Tournament...?

Informative answer based on mathematical analysis and augmentative reality that is blocking tornadoes from the East:

...Expect to get raped or a 1st place finish sir...

I kinda think that this thread started off as a serious approach to a poker tournament discussion, but degenerated fairly quickly into something a little less than was originally intended by the original author. For what it's worth, you make a sensible comment and I agree with the aspect of time being a fairly important factor.
