Didn't want to hijack Sam's thread...

Just wanted to say that the first time I ever bought anything with poker winnings (a TV for me) was very definitely the biggest boost to my play... Seeing something REAL, sitting there in your room, instead of just numbers on a screen, really makes you realise a lot of things.

I hope the purchase of your new laptop with your hard earned poker winnings is the start of many more big cashes... Thumbs Up

Yeah it feels good doesnt it Big Smile

I didnt actually buy it, i won the laptop (and tbh, still unsure whether to sell it, get a cheaper one and pocket the difference).

but i have done in the past. one day i had decent money on sky, and was on a losing streak, so withdraw and bought tv/dvd player/laptop/x-box(which i hardly used).

feels awesome though.

tbh im just looking forward to being able to play more than 3 tables without my laptop overheating and shutting off Tongue

ty, i hope u get more too Big Smile

I know that feeling all too well Aww crap!

I'm contemplating a laptop purchase at the moment... but poker has certainly made me very reluctant to ever lose (aka "spend" ) money.

I think of my laptop more as a portable poker playing device than anything else... I had actually forgot it could be used for anything other than poker Smile

Hey ice queen,if your laptop is overheating and shutting off then there are lots of ways to stop that.I had an acer laptop a few years ago that did that and it was a fan issue so a quick and very careful inside the vents with a dustbuster sorted that.It could be that your computer needs a good service such as driver updates etc and you can always go to your control panel and check if your storage is problem.
If it is a hard drive issue a good idea is to do a clean up and delete all your old stuff,I recently had an issue with BWIN freezing and after a trawl through my hard drive I noticed that half of my storage was filled with hand histories and notes, some from years ago.I use a 3 year old toshiba mid range laptop so I decided as I only use this laptop for poker I would just reset the whole computer back to factory condition and now it is fantastic, powers up and online in seconds.
I would definitely be firing up the new computer as it sounds like you will need one eventually even though my Toshiba powers up great I need a new battery and a new power cord and those things don't come cheap unless you buy fakes. Smile

cheers for that mate.

It is quite an old laptop and recently had a service from a mate who runs his own IT company, he stripped it right back.

It just has so much wrong, the fan is screwed, the battery overheats and holds no charge and its pretty much had it. my intention now is to get everything i need onto my new laptop, then i will indeed clear this one back to factory and either keep it as an emergency back up, or let my daughter have it (she has just turned 2 and so is learning all this stuff).

It is probably the better option to use your new computer, the problem with stuff these days is they seem to be manufactured with the intention of only lasting three or four years no matter how well you look after it.My battery is the same as yours and my charger cable is just about dead but the cost to get legit replacements are just not cost effective when next week something else could break.Time to start making some birthday hints for a new laptop. Smile
