BLOG: IceQueen's Castle

I couldn't let a blog go without a mention of the rubbish that is celebrity big brother. Celebrity heh, now that is an oxymoron if I ever saw one. How many of the people in the house can actually call themselves a celebrity. I could count them on one finger I think! I should point out now that I do not watch this rubbish. The other half does, usually to my snorts of ‘watch what you l[...]   Read more » IceQueen's Castle

I'm sorry amscafeaus, but what is the point of a personal blog, if not to express personal opinion and vent?

"Finally, lose the sour attitude. It is a fast way to alienate everyone. If you find someone or something tiresome keep it to yourself" - he says in his sour rant...

Keep up the good work Ice - pay little or no attention to people who think their opinion is more valid than others because they use words like "infinitesimally".

" Humor the less intellectually gifted" - ok, I will....

That was a very nice 2nd post in three and a half years on here. Very flowery, very verbose. It's amazing how this forum has managed to function without your insight for so long, but thankfully now, we are all saved. Finally someone is here to put us all right.

Google "pompous twat"

I couldnt disagree with you more, Celebrity Big Brother is one of my favourite shows and i watch it every night. People who knock these programmes should just turn over and watch something else

@amscafeaus I am glad you find my posts controversial, that is the whole point. They will get a lot more 'moany' I can assure you. You don't have to read it, honestly. I won't be offended Tongue
And yes, you aces don't 'deserve' to win. Infact, 3 out of 10 times, they probably won't Big Smile

@yout85 Thanks but don't worry about me. If everyone agreed with what I said, what a boring forum this would be. But thanks for the support.

@doubletop777 Good innit!! (Don't let the other half know I said that!!!!!). I watch it so I can complain lol.
Who do you want to win? I am firmly in the camp of Gary winning atm, I think he gets a sore end of the deal and he is great. And Point Break is one of my favourite films.
Do you watch normal BB? (I don't, I don't see the point in it).

Ok, so now I have read two of your blogs.....meh! Everyone except you is stupid. No one is accountable for their actions. Poker doesn't owe you anything. Your aces don't deserve to win(Seriously?). Try this Ice Queen; Google "meaningless platitudes." Then try "trite phrases."
Poker is a game of imperfect information subject to the cruel deprivations of random chance. You can play your hand perfectly, get all of the money in as a 99% favorite and still get crushed by a freak bit of horrible luck. Some frustration is part of the game. What you might want to mention is that dealing with your emotions and your luck(good and bad) in an exemplary manner is a huge key to long term success in poker.Often there is absolutely nothing you could have done better in any one particular situation. Trying to study the vagaries of random chance is a futile pursuit. In the course of your poker career what other players do is infinitesimally consequential compared to how well you manage your own game and its variance. Finally, lose the sour attitude. It is a fast way to alienate everyone. If you find someone or something tiresome keep it to yourself. Most assuredly other cogent minds will have already noticed. Those less perceptive than you are blissfully unaware and those far more perceptive than you are miles ahead of your disparaging commentary. Find something interesting to discuss or remain silent. Poker should be as pleasant an experience for ALL participants as is humanly possible. Humor the less intellectually gifted, the gamblers, degenerates and other denizens of casinos and card rooms worldwide. In the end, they pay all the bills.

Is that all? man I thought this guy was going to tell us the meaning of life or some thing, maybe he thought he was in church or something, sound off like a preacher man...lol...2 post really.?

I love to argue just to get steam off when my aces got cracked against other crazy hands and then it let me cool down and then i can refocus on playing on the table and have fun playing the next hand and hopefully build a solid mental game, but honestly i tilt a lot and tend to go nuts too much sometime and lose some buyin that should not have been lost if i kept my calm lol. Anyway have fun mate and good luck at the tables!

Cambridge Dictionaries Online;
Blog-a regular record of your thoughts, opinions, or experiences that you put on the internet for other people to read.

Hi Ice Queen,or should we start calling you Sourpuss!!
I thought it was an interesting read and can't really argue with your opinions on the big brother 'celebs' .My daughter watches this and I only know a couple of them such as Gary Busey and Audley Harrison. As for Dee,I don't know if being on benefits is what caused her depression or if it is just an excuse to claim long term benefits.I have a friend who has mental health issues and unfortunately the only time people see him is when he is feeling well, the other 90% of the time he stays inside his house alone, catch 22.
Keep up the good work and I look forward to your next blog. Smile

" He paid his money, he has a right to play any hand he wants, in any way he likes."

That has been my p0ker mantra for years. Probably saved my sanity.

The only oxymoron here IceQueen. is your own post.
You are talking about lessons in life and you still havent learned yours. Smile
The year is 2014 and you are still watching big brother....

I completely agree that a moron have the right to sit at a poker table and play any cards he wants.
However you cant deny the right of the other player to tell him what he his thinking of is play and that he is a moron.

I really dont see your point as better poker player.

Loosing a hand to a moron does not make you a worst poker player neither that winning a hand to the same moron make you a better player.

If you play cash game you loose a hand to a moron no problem in the long term you will get it back.
Hoever if it is a tournament you are getting out by a moron then you cant come back.

There is plenty of peoples here that made comments about loosing to moron and i think you also did and there is nothink wrong with that. Agree Agree Agree Agree Agree Agree Agree

Ok imagine this.

A player plays badly. He takes your money in a bad beat. You proceed to tell him he is a fish and why. He doesn''t make the same mistake again and you don't win your money back off of him.
Who is the moron? Tongue
The lesson: Never tap the glass Smile

Let me point out, I do this. And then I am annoyed with myself afterwards.
Infact, EVERYTHING I moan about in all my blog posts, are something I do. I am not sitting in my castle preaching, I am just as bad as the peasants lol Big Smile

Indeed. In fact I'd go as far as to say that the person sat at the table shouting "Fish" is actually the table's fish.

These type of programs are the best watched programs, even though no one actually watches them.

It's just that some family member likes it, and we're forced to watch along...
Oh, the humanity! Blink

I might have aimed a little bit too high with my post. It was intended as constructive criticism. I have and will continue to read everything I can about poker. I am always hungry for knowledge especially the kind that can be profitable. I was hoping IceQueenAce might realize that her post was not very well thought out. Perhaps she might try harder in the future to publish something that actually is useful, educational, humorous or at the very least insightful. It seems all I have done is stir up a crowd that insists it's OK to publish drivel for mass consumption. Sadly this is the modern world, thought and effort don't seem to be required anymore, just content. Buckets and piles of steaming excrement that passes for "writing" these days, how profoundly sad.

Oh by the way; my postings are now up to 4. If I am not careful I might become a "BLOGGER" :0

This is virtually the exact point being made by Ice about Big Brother...

Maybe you should give it a go???

I admit there's not a huge difference between constructive criticism and rudeness, so it's not always easy to differentiate between the two... but...

"Buckets and piles of steaming excrement that passes for "writing" these days, how profoundly sad"

This is definitely rudeness.

I am not sure you have achieved your aim of 'constructive'. I know you don't like my blog, but I don't know why. Which bits don't you agree with? I assume you are watching big brother so will know what I am talking about?
Maybe break my post down, like I am breaking yours down.

This isn't a blog about poker, nor have I claimed it to be. It is a blog about society and how I perceive society. Then it links to how we may use these thoughts in poker. I wouldn't make a pure poker blog, there are many many posters here that could do a way better job than I could.

We all should.

I thought it out a lot. I had to think of a topic, content, link to poker and how this can better our play. Infact, it took about 4 days of thought before I even put anything on paper. Thanks though.

It is not supposed to be educational. It is just my thoughts. I want it to be controversial, I want discussions. I tell the 4 year old's in my class they have their own minds. I NEVER tell them their ideas are wrong. Because it is their idea's. I wouldn't have my blog any other way either.
Infact, a lot of my teaching is about children being their own person with their own thoughts. It is called creativity.

And this is where you really fall down, because you have just posted insults both to myself and 'the crowd'. Infact maybe your posts could be described as how you described mine. I would never be so rude as to say that though.

Consider this though:

There are many types of writing for an audience and for myself.

When I want to remember what I need to buy, I make a shopping list.
When I want to write to parents to describe their children's learning, I write a newsletter.
When I want to raise money for the school, I will use a piece of persuasive text.
When I want the children to know what they can do to improve their work, I use instructive writing.
When I needed to pass my degree, I wrote a dissertation using academic writing.
When I want to put down some general thoughts that others might find interesting and that would invoke discussion, I use a blog.

I will let you work out which one of those texts I use in my blog Big Smile

I don't ask you to read my blog and I certainly don't ask you to agree with it. But I would kind of ask you don't use the space here to call something I have taken time to do, as 'steaming excrement'. Just don't read it.

That said, I have already decided what my next one is going to be about. It will have half the forum nodding in agreement and the other half disgusted they even opened it to read it. So maybe you might want to avoid it, to save your blood pressure.

I hope you understand where I am coming from.

Enjoying your blog Icequeenace, keep it up. The blogs at BRM are in the process of elevating this forum back to what it was several years ago: a source of poker information, a certain amount of fun and silly stuff, and a healthy dose of real opinions which keep the pot stirring. Thumbs Up
