A PokerStars player called gordijú had played around 1200 MTTs on PokerStars, with an average buy-in of around $66 and was down ~$28,000

Until.....

On Thursday, they won the Big $22, $50k guaranteed for $10,438.43

Then yesterday, they won the $109 Sunday Kickoff, $100k guaranteed for $26,013.02

AND

won the $11 Sunday Storm, $300k guaranteed for $30,963.10

AND

won the Bigger $55, 180k guaranteed for $44,084.35

...They are now $82.5k in profit.

What a few days this guy has had...... Shock

And there's me thinking $10 is some great profit. Big Smile

Guess it proves that eventually you will start winning if you are a good player.

What we saying eventualy it will turn when u good and u play a-game...
Tournaments are swingy as hell prepare on loosing before you get a nice strike Blink
Play a long time now a lot off times close to ft with a huge hand out...
Some small ft's but the big on is still out,.
How frustrating that is but you will have to go true the hell off poker Big Smile

I'd love to talk to this guy... find out what was different for him/her THAT day.

They were a long term losing player... massively so. I don't know how things could change that drastically.

I don't think the lesson here is "keep going and you'll get your reward"... I think it's "even a stopped clock is right twice a day". I don't think he/she suddenly became God... I just think everything aligned and it was their lucky day.

Tbh though... I'm totally at a loss to explain it Confused

I wonder if he will be smart enough to take out half of his bankroll and use the rest to go back on a loss or push. Big Smile

Seeing as he's dropped around $2k already since these wins... I think the answer to that is already clear Phisx....

How can anyone say he's a "losing player" after just 1200 MTTs?
Sorry but that's just idiotic, even great players who have tens of thousands of 180s SNGs played with huge ROI had even worse streaks at 180s SNGs over that sample, let alone a player who plays many "red" tourneys with large fields. Even for 45s SNGs it's possible. Even 9 mans you can easily be down after this amount of games (though obv. now as much negative ROI).
Google some graphs of large volume MTT players, even those playing everything from lowstakes to highstakes (for the TLB (which obv. lowers ABI alot) and who also have lower field MTTs of just a few hundred in their games, even they will have worse streaks than just 1.2K games being down a bunch.

I said long term losing player as the 1200 tournies were over the space of a few years... hence "long term"... and "losing" as they were consistently losing...

The space of time in which they were played doesn't matter at all, variance is going by games played (or better said, the amount of total decisions taken).
If I played only 1 SNG per day every day I could be losing player for years, too.
That's why if you have a downswing anyone reasonable will tell you to "grind it out",i.E. "keep putting in volume and it'll come", it doesnt mean it will come soon (timewise) while putting in low volume.

...Missing my point Smile

I do understand your point, I just think if you feel ~-35% ROI over 1200MTTs is worth mentioning then you are missing something Confused

The point would remain even if he was a moderate winning player the whole time... to have NO big wins ever, to having 3 in 1 day is pretty amazing. That's what I was getting at.

The second graph on my earlier post illustrates it best.

...It's just pure jealousy if I'm honest
Cool

fishy if you ask me- either he was totally drunk and constantly smoking weed (which would explain the sudden increase in class) or he has sold his soul to devil on midnight or two minutes past midnight.
yeah graph looks sick, pretty much reminds my own, except mine has no green upwards spike (minor difference)

Haha yeah sick done it and very proud of what he has done , this is one sick run and you got to be playing very well and have some good basis to reach this level of win, luck might play a part but i will call it 50/50 with work maybe edging it here that he deserves it thanks to his hard work. Anyway not every day we hear about this stories so nice read for me after a few bad weeks of poker and betting. Cheers maybe one day we will win like that too!

Agree totaly they dont know how swingy they are
Aww crap!

Ok... this whole "MTTs are swingy and you don't understand" nonsense is really annoying me...

Over the past 4 years, the guy has played 1,272 tournaments... came in the money in 13% of them, only made 29 final tables, won 13, 2nd in 3 and 3rd in 1.

Over the same period I have played 504 tournaments... came in the money in 19% of them, made 35 final tables, won 5, 2nd in 6 and 3rd in 5...

These are purely scheduled MTTs... If you add other tournaments into the mix he has played over 2000 and has equally poor results.... and I have equally decent results.

The point has nothing to do with swings. I would bet thousands on the fact that he will gradually drop down in profit over the coming months, and I will steadily rise.

He's a pro - so obviously not a donk... but not very good either.
