nice hand
you shouldnt have checked the river
no 8 or 9 of clubs would bet to you
so he was obviously gonna check
but a bet might get a call from an ace or queen if he believed you were bluffing him

i didnt care for chips, I just wanted to open royal flush, so if I bet river he could fold, and I wouldnt show royal flush Big Smile

Don't agree here... I know you say the check was just to show down StheP, but actually it was likely your best move too. With the cards on the board, and the cards in your hand, you were unlikely to get just called by anything... if they had quads or a full house, you would get paid off by checking anyway - but likelihood is they didn't have a full house, or a very high flush and so the only way to get anything out of them is to make them think the fourth club disappointed you.

I would've checked there on a cash table...

if i played for value, I would bet 2BB and I would likely get called... If not he would fold evrything, so small bet is best option for sure Big Smile

like you said he obviously had a bad hand
probably just a queen
it is a question of
you wanna bet it and maybe a small club would go for it
or check and see if he is gonna bluff you

and a limper pre flop is most likley not gonna bet that
and it depends on the read on him

i think here in both ways , there was no money going in the river

------------
trips , straight , flush would not bet but might call
2 pair would not bet and not call
FH or better would raise a bet

thats why prefer bet
in cash games they will bluff that in a second , or at least in the ones im playing

Never bad when you get one. Always happy no matter what the game is.
Even if it is fun play. The bad thing so far from the ones i had in real
money games, was that i didnt manage to win big.
It is better winning big pots than having a royal and win the minimum Smile

While this thread is clearly about poker, it got me wondering whether the Royal a Family (in UK, but equally any royal family anywhere else) has a little chuckle each time they go to the toilet and flush, on the basis that once again they have a Royal Flush!

A post of mine from a while ago about my first ever Royal Flush:

"The biggest pot I've ever won was with a Royal Flush...

$1.00/2.00 NL, 6-Max...

On the button with Q10 spades...

Player 1 Folds
Player 2 Raises to $8
Player 3 Calls $8
I Call $8
Small Blind Folds
Big Blind Folds

Flop: Ks Js Kc

Player 2 Bets $16
Player 3 Calls $16
I call $16

Turn: 3h

Player 2 Checks
Player 3 Checks
I check

River: As

Player 2 Pushes all-in for $230
Player 3 Folds
I....... call (believe it or not) and scoop a ~$500 pot Thumbs Up

Player 2 was holding pocket Aces, so hit a full house on the river.

As far as the odds go... You should get one Royal Flush for every 30,940 hands you get dealt. This would only be the case if you played EVERY hand with a ten or higher in it, and NEVER folded while the possibility of a Royal was still there... so in reality, the odds are more likely to be somewhere near 200,000-1"

That is indeed a good payout. But you are playing higher limits also Smile
That player would have been traumatised after this bad beat Smile
It is one of the moments where you praying for someone to go all in.
And someone heard yours lol.
Good hand.

Yeah... that was a good 10 years ago... and the ironic thing is, that the exact same hand now I would've played totally differently. I would re-raise from the button... the Aces would 4-bet and I would fold, so instead of being ~$250 up, I would've lost $24

Thankfully I was young and inexperienced Big Smile

Definitely Smile

I thought I was brilliant back then, but I've learned so much since it has shown me how wrong I was... and that makes me realise I still have so much to learn.

Very nice hand indeed. I do think that you missed a couple of streets of value. I would have definitely bet the flop and, after reraising him on the turn, you really should have bet the river. Nice hand though
