Should the Party Poker $200 BRM freerol moved to a different day?  0
Recently a lot of the Party Poker $200 BRM freerolls were cancelled due to the DDos attacks on Party Poker every other Sunday.

What do you think, should it be moved to another day (since these attacks are mainly on Sundays)?

Maybe we could ask admin to arrange this, if we agree?

I agree that it should be moved.I'm not really that bothered what day it is but Saturday would probably be the best choice for me,between 8 and 9 o'clock in the evening.
I Don't think anyone can really be impressed with the way PP deal with their Sunday night problems so hopefully other players will give this some support. Smile

G'day mates

I think moving the game to a Saturday would be a good idea.
It seems that Party is going down every Sunday.
I missed out of 3 tournaments on Sunday because I could not get logged into the site.
be cool

Are we sure it was DDos?
It seems interesting to me that a big enogh site such as Party cannot (or worse: will not) afford cloud mitigation providers or any form of defense mechanism against these attacks. It's unreal. Makes no sense.

I'm fairly sure it isn't. More likely their antiquated systems can't handle the extra traffic on cash booster night.

It seems a strange coincidence that they have had this happen on most Sunday nights and they have massively cut the numbers for the booster tournament.
Also the BRM freeroll only had about 40 players and they decided to cut it but there were loads of 50c satellites and dozens of 10c and 20c SnGs going on.Surely the rake from 40 players earning 50 points is going to better than a few SnGs or a couple of 50c satellites that probably take the same amount of time. Confused

On previous weeks it has been dos, yes. I have this in writing. I am fairly sure (but assuming) that 888 have been getting the same.

At a recommendation I have been reading a book 'fatal system error' which frankly is amazing and talks about how underground hacking etc and all that works too, I recommend it to everyone.

Hello everybody. Sorry for the stupid question, but what the hell is DDos. I do not have a Party Poker account so of course I havent noticed anything. Is it a hacker group? And why do they target Party Poker?

A ddos is when a hacker uses thousands of infected machines that it can control and continually accesses certain parts of a sites website, overloading it so it slows so much that it is unacceptable.

Discussing ddos'of party with a party employee over the last couple of days, he said this...

Yes I do admit that it is not only our responsibility to host the tournament, but also to make sure it runs. Unfortunately, there's little we can do to immediately mitigate all connectivity issues which might arise from such an attack. This is due to the nature of the attack itself.

These situations are now few and far between, and in some cases our players would not even notice this happening. No one is insured from such attacks as we've unfortunately seen the same happen to our competitors.

888 get hit at same time but basically all sites get hit often but with different strengths

Are you gone tell me that in the book you read they saying that there is no existence of some kind that would prevent the sites from these attacks.

Dont you think again that if its hackers attack these hackers would go where they are most vulnerables.

Why not PokerStars or Full Tilt. And if these sites were attack nobody noticed it.

This ddos attack is a very easy way out of their problems.

What about all other bugs they had since their new software. Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap! Aww crap!

Actuallly yes in the book it DOES say there is next to nothing they can do about it. It also says there are dos attacks on 1000 websites a DAY. among other things. It is very scary.

That said, 888 go down at same time as party. Stars went down for an admittedly shorter time, but still down, a few weeks ago, people complained on these forums. Betfair goes down every Saturday.

what is means is, sites have three options
1) get much bigger servers (and I am talking $400,000 ones) and hire people to fight the attacks.
2) pay the money they are being blackmailed with (at a guess $40,000 a time)
3) shut down

Also, I knew and was talking about this all before I got my book, I got the book because of this.

They are clearly trying to solve it. And don't forget, its costing them hundreds of thousands each time they get hit, it is their livelihhoods they are fighting for too

------------
also, don't forget, big companies like ebay/paypal go down VERY often. I am fairly sure all these are the work of hackers/dos'sers

So! We all fancy playing loads of poker on a Saturday night! Move all our favourite games from Sunday to Saturday, cos Sunday keeps getting messed up by outside interest. Do you think that the outside interest interferes will simply just move over to Saturday? Lots of work to be done by sites to protect their integrity me thinks!
