Apparently it is another DDOS attack. According to Party they are trying to resolve it so that it doesn't happen again.

They probably don't have a backup plan in case the update fails, which it clearly has. So now it's just waiting for the dust to settle, and they've fixed the problems. Hopefully they do that before bankruptcy becomes inevitable...
Support says there are DDos attacks again, which might be true, but in this instance, it sounds more like a convenient explanation for a botched update...
I really hope they get it together, because I've always liked Party Poker.

G'day mates

I think the entire DDos attack excuse is total BS.
It is just a convenient fracking excuse to give the masses.
The serves at PokerStars are now old and they are trying to cheap out and just refusing to update them with more modern equipment.
I guess they do not feel like they are making enough money from us players.

be cool

A conversation between myself and a PP representative yesterday... (not word for word as I didn't copy at the time)

Me: Good evening, I'm currently playing in a tournament but keep getting disconnected. Is this a problem for everyone? Or am I just sitting at the table blinding out?

PP: It is problem for everyone - All tournies are currently paused and will all but certainly not resume - you will be paid out according to our cancelled tourney policy.

Me: Can I just ask, why were tournies started up again after the update when there were still problems?

PP: The disconnection problems you are experiencing now are in no way connected to the recent update. The issues are not under our control and although we cannot give a timeframe, we are working to have everything back to normal as soon as possible.

Me: Ummmm... 2 points. Firstly, the fact that you are having issues that are "beyond your control" doesn't fill me with confidence for playing on your site... and secondly, if they truly aren't under your control, how can you be working to put them right?

(5 Minutes later)
PP: Feel free to email your concerns and/or questions, and we will make sure they reach the right team. We cannot however, guarantee a response to all of your questions.

Me: Ok, I think I understand - Thanks for your help. Good night.

...I think I know the problem they are having. I believe it is DDOS attacks, but PP cannot look as if their software is vulnerable while at the same time they don't want to admit liability for something that isn't their fault. Tough position to be in....

I for one do not believe in DDOS attack. They this problem of this kind so often that i just cant understand that if they are under attack they are not able to solve the problem.

Any site is able to protect himself from DDOS attack why not PP. Question Question Question Question Question

Why Pokerstars is not under attack or if they were they did something to proteck themself.

Confused Confused Confused Confused Confused

I really can't decide if I believe that they are being attacked or if it is an excuse or not but I would rather hear that it is a technical problem rather than some hacker, some criminals or Kim Yong Un on tilt can shut down one of the worlds biggest internet poker site.It shows PP in a very poor light if it is the case and if I was a pro player I would not feel confident in playing there anymore.

Because Pokerstars is paying off these attackers? Someone is... Otherwise these criminals would find a more profitable use for their extortion bot network, wouldn't they? I fear that Party might not be financially able to pay, because short term, it makes business sense to just pay, until you've protected yourself enough (if that's even possible, I don't know).
But I agree, that in this instance it's probably an excuse for a faulty update...

I totally DO think this is a ddos attack. Plenty of other sites get hit and go down all the time. EBAY for instance is one of the biggest companies out there and they have suffered a lot. To say no other companies suffer this issue is totally incorrect.

Message from a party_rep on another forum:

Hi all,

I would like to update you all with regards to our recent issues

We are experiencing technical problems due to an ongoing DDoS attack. As a result of this all our services will be unavailable for 6-8 hours starting from 12.30 CET (06.30 ET).

Please accept our apologies for this and rest reassured that your account details remain completely secure. We have identified a solution and are working with the relevant authorities to ensure that this does not happen again.

I will keep you up to date

Kind regards,

Colette

All this talk of hack attacks,...and extortion payments really creeps me out...!

...anyhow,....there doesn't seem to be a problem logging in and registering for tourneys now,...Wednesday night...!

It's getting to be a little annoying now waiting all week to play a certain tourney,...then you find you're out of luck due to some problem or other with partypoker... Confused

I still cant play on party poker. I log in as normal and then the lobby just keeps disappearing. Is anybody else having similar problems?

I haven't tried to log in this morning, but wasn't working at all last night... Frustrating, because I have two Missions left to complete - both SNG Missions, and both just needed to play a few SNGs yesterday - but as I couldn't log in I effectively have to start again on them....

Have any of you guys ever been waiting for a train and discovered that it is delayed due to a signalling fault caused by vandals on the line?

If you have then you will appreciate that the disruption to service was outside of the direct control of the train company, despite the fences and security and the signs saying no trespassing!

Sometimes it is really easy to criticise companies who get attacked online as though it is something different to Reality! The Internet is reality. Get used to it and stop treating it as something different.

Make your dissatisfaction complaint (as you would with the train company's) and move on.

I don't know if party poker is still down but I have been playing on BWIN most of the day and all seems well and running smoothly with this site so hopefully all is good with PP as well.
Hopefully I will get the chance to use one of my tickets for the Christmas tree tournament, hope to see some of you guys in the game. Smile

I am logged in fine. but it looks like points didn't update last two days. means I wont get into the BRM FR this week cause of the cutoff time

sucks

I think what partypoker needs to do is shut down for a few days or a week or however long it takes,...so they can start from the ground up with a totally new computer program to run everything. They have to go out an aquire TOTALLY new tested and proven software and then throw out the old and install the new...!

I like PP,...more than FT,...but I will say that it's been nothing but a glitchy annoying f'ing MESS since I hooked up ther nearly a year ago... I really wish they'd get their $H!T together...!!! Smile
