Fatal Punch During Poker Tournament

During a Texas Hold 'em tournament at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall in Southbridge on the night of March 16, 2012, a Massachusetts man "sucker punched" a 45-year-old man, who he believed had insulted his girlfriend, in the face so he fell to the floor. The victim, Daniel McDonald, suffered brain and skill injures when his head hit the concrete floor, and he died in the hospital 8 days lat[...]   Read more » Fatal Punch During Poker Tournament

A very unfortunate case for everyone involved,it is doubtful that he had meant to do any serious damage but now has to live with the consequences for a pretty stupid rush of blood to the head.Up to 20 years in prison for one second of madness.
I see no details of anything to do with poker in the story though.

Very sad, everyone loses. I will say this though, you never know what someone is capable of or what concealed weapon he is carrying, and if you are not careful you can find yourself in more trouble than you expected. Years ago one of the regs in our bar league was an MMA fighter and you sure didn't want to get on his bad side. Sometimes you are better to just shut your mouth and mind your own business.

Ouch, an impulse can basically destroy your whole life.

Everytime I watch a fighting video on youtube or facebook and I see people fighting on concrete or in the street, with grass 10 feet away, I think "god these guys are dumb".

Getting KOed by a punch on the chin is usually a lot less dangerous than slamming the back of your head on concrete while unconscious, with all your weight behind it... So people, please, if you're gonna fight, do it where the ground isnt as hard as a rock, don't be dumber than you already are for fighting the first place Blink

Ill just kick you in the nuts, no punching involved!!!

Call me a p***y, so be it but no one hits their head or anything.

You might not beable to produce kids again but not my issue if you mess with me!

In my opinion this is a very unfortunate case, but it has nothing to do with the Poker Tournament. I mean this could have happened anywhere and it does happen more often in other situations than in Poker Tournaments.

I was suckerpunched once after a football game by a half-handed skinhead. I survived though.

Defending his girlfriends' honour by sucker punching a 45 year old man in the face is hardly something to be proud of in the first place. If that was my husband or partner I would be disgusted with such a coward and he would have lost more than his money that night. Smile

Don't know if this is a Hungarian term but does anyone know what a "half handed skinhead" is? Smile

I believe his girlfriend at that time Mr. Walsh the defendant "mistakenly believed the victim had directed an insulting remark towards" has left him because of this horrific incident.
20 years in prison, huh?

What a tragic case this is. Violence is never the answer to anything in my opinion and this was a needless loss of life. Should just have walked away and nobody would have had their lives shattered

It's a skinhead who only has a left hand on his torso. Kinda like Jamie Lannister but with less SWAG.

This isn't the way to solve inconveniences. Imagine whole world doing like that, how many sons with no father we could have.

More and more news brokes out about poker games which ending up badly - violent outbursts and brawls, hecklers and druken stupors - seems to me these kinda behavior will turn more people onto playing online instead risking meeting somebody with anger issues at the tables...

And the real question is why? Why to hit a 45 year old man. What did he get from that - only more trouble and now seems couple of months or years in jail. I wouldnt even take a girlfriend to a poker play "go do ur nails, make me a stone cold lasaggnas and cake hard as stone while i come back, or go out whit ur friends or just watch tv" . He coulded just grab the 45 year old man by the jaket and say - dont u ever say that to my girlfriend again - go Vin (dizel) Weasel on him. Damn it. Well one thing is sure - its a crazy world out there - everywhere.

I guess as soon as he got up the adrenalin burst into his brain and he did not have real control over his rage so instead playing it cool and just threaten the guy, he hit first and asked later. Sad story tbh.
