I love playing Gin Rummy and want to play in some local tournaments and will look up for some in the Vancouver, Canada area.

Also, do you think playing and LEARNING Gin Rummy helps you be a better poker player you think?

I was quite surprised by this thread when I saw it, and my initial r exactions was it was an odd thread. The thought of gin rummy is one that that takes me back to my childhood where I would spend hours at the dining room table, with my mum and sister, and random neighbours on occasion, playing him rummy! My initial reaction is that my ability to play gin rummy doesn't translate into poker, however, I guess the knowledge of how the cards work does help in some way! I'll give it more thought!

All my family gatherings when growing up consisted of one or 2 active games of Gin, I personally never played as I was little and didnt understand it as a kid!

But yes this brings back memories of Christmases, Thanksgiving gatherings...

The only reason I got into gin rummy is because of stu ungar. I read that he would handicap his games because nobody wanted to play him. I want to put several hundred dollars on rummy royal and test my skills

Omg I love gin rummy! Beers and cards till 6 am playing it with my dad's friends growing up and uncles and cousins. I don't think it had any effect on my poker playing tho. Just knowing cards and the statistics in general from playing since a young age is helpful and reading plays and players. But the game itself I don't think has any bearing on a poker game and how you'd play it. My gramma used to sit me and my sister down in her suite and play whist with us. I was 4 maybe 6 when I moved out of that house so before the age of six. That's where I got my love of playing cards from.
Just a thought or a question to add.... Does anyone find table game players such as gin rummy and whist and big 2 players to be more adaptable to player poker then let's say solitaire or clock or spider players?
