A $1 million guaranteed tournament on the US facing Winning Poker Network was cancelled deep into the action after a suspected DDoS attack last night. 1,937 players had registered and after nearly six hours the tournament was brought to a halt. The players funds will be refunded. A Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack is an attempt to make a website unavailable to its users. There have been several reported cases recently of this happening at a number of online rooms, whereby the majority of players are disconnected from the gaming server. In the case of an MTT or SNG, this would give a significant advantage to those players not disconnected from the event, especially at the shallow blind stages of the tournament. It could also be used to disconnect an opponent when facing a bet they would otherwise call in a large pot, forcing them to fold the hand.

Oh man that really sucks in a big way. I would be furious if I was a contender in that top ten. I think jeffaboy has it right though. They should be payed out according to thier stacks. As a side note ... I wonder if the eliminated players got their money back. I would have to say that they would have to give it back. Can't just keep it. So a spot of luck for those eliminated there is my silver lining of that cloud.

I cant imagine how the ones that were winning bog at the moment would feel after this one. Someone would expect maybe another scheduled day to continue the game, but that wouldnt be fair of course if some of them couldnt participate. These types of attacks have started to create big problems. I wonder who are behind of them, and whats in it for them.....

Imagine playing for 6 hours and maybe you are the chipleader or middle stack and then, from nowhere, they shut you down and you only get your money back. Jessus, it's 1 million prize pool. It really sucks, bad timming. :-S
