It's a one-time scan and detection and it will find anything anywhere which shouldn't be on your pc and will help you contain and determinate. If you don't have ongoing AV or anti-adware software then this is your best solution. You couldn't do anything else on your pc while this will scanning but it worth the wait I am telling you.
Have you tried mrt.exe (Microsoft Windows malicious software removal tool), I think it's meant exactly for this purpose. They update it very frequently, so maybe it would do some good, and it's already present on your PC. I've not needed it yet, but that would be my first try... I do run it from time to time, but no infections found yet.

Thanks for that fellas. I'll check your suggestions out and see what happens. I don't really want to do a system restore as its an old xp laptop that takes the piss trying to update the drivers after a restore. Thanks again
Looks like this is the one that has sorted it for me Downloaded malwarebytes malware fighter and there's no more zombie news ads popping up everywhere. thanks a lot yout and everyone else for their suggestions
