I just saw a news report about the second biggest bitcoin exchange has suspended operations after what they believe is a security compromise and it is not the first time that something of this nature has happened so I don't think using bitcoin is really much of a safe option.

Win Poker does accept bitcoin. (Win Poker, not WinnerPoker). It is in the iPoker network, so has a solid player base. But if you deposit bitcoins, you can only cashout bitcoins, at least in the beginning. There are a few bitcoin only rooms, but they usually have very little traffic.
Bitcoin is useless for gambling because there isn't two days in a row when it's worth the same amount. And I get it - if somebody have the patience or discipline to sell his/hers when the next boom begin then he/she will get a nice sum of return on it's original investment, but it's the internet... Things always come and go, and I don't see bitcoin become the flavour of the month once again.
