BLOG: You Stink!

I have just been reading in the news that in secondary schools, 50% of boys and 66% of girls do not have a shower after P.E. Children from deprived backgrounds are 40% less likely to shower. The worry is that these children are not exerting themselves enough as they don't want to sweat and then smell after P.E. I want to know, when did personal hygiene stop becoming a ‘must-do'? Why shou[...]   Read more » You Stink!

I find this staggering about the percentage of children who do not shower after P.E. and i also agree with you about the point of, when people ask for advice they totally ignore it. Why ask in the first place?

damn those catchy headlines- i stink and i wanted to get some advice on how limit my level of aroma to a desirable one. now all i see here is a bunch of stinky children... boo Thumbs Down

"I get frustrated when people post on BRM forums asking for advice and then totally ignore it"
happens all the time in business, personal life, poker etc. - imho what it really mean is that people do not want your advice, they only want to hear a confirmation from you that they are right on any topic in question.

I wouldn't say about girls, but a boy, say 7 - 10 years of age, MUST BE filthy as sh_t, with snot hanging out of his nose, with knees scraped to the bone and trying to catch frogs in a street puddle. Even if I make him take a shower, I expect him to be dirty again in half an hour. I was like this, when I was 8 and I like it about contemporary boys. Smile
I am more worried about boys preferring dance classes instead of football at this age.

PS Children don't really smell that bad even when they are unwashed because they don't have the amount of hormones that grown ups have.

Well maybe they should introduce showers at the schools. Each child that wants to enter the school has to take a shower before being let in. That way no one will smell any longer and the children can concentrate on learning something at school.

haha love your blog post about hygiene you know some poker players are like those school children when they finished playing poker they do not bath or even do not take a shower for days and just grind, but this does not apply to winning poker players i think, as they are disciplined and so on, anyway nice blog post keep them coming always good to read them.

Cheers have fun and have a nice day mate!

I mean, seriously...
My 10-year old boy invited his classmate to our summerhouse for a weekend. And he was washing his hands like every 15 min: before meals, after meals, after he picked some gooseberries, after he handled a hedgehog... I mean, what is this sh_t?
I took them into the woods for a walk and we took a bottle of water for drinking with us. That little bug_er touched some mushroom and demanded to wash his hands with drinking water. What a wa_ker?!!!
That's the last time he got invited to our summer house.

I do strongly agree with the premise that physical education is a dying art in schools. I know here in Canada it is still going fairly strong and all have to take PE but it is not enforced to be completely involved. As far as the hygiene goes, Some of it I think has to do with the shyness factor. I don't know how it is in the U.K. but unfortunately there is a lot of bullying here. A lot of the kids don't want to be put in the situation of being bullied, especially with their pants down. In regards to the poker advice ignored... I give a big thumbs up to. If you are soliciting advice then take the advice... otherwise you are just an imbecile. Thanks for the blog IceQueenAce.

When I was at school we had no choice but to do P.E at least twice a week and you had to shower afterwards.
It seems things have changed now,my daughter spends about an hour in the morning getting ready for school, doing her hair and make up and it is same with all her friends. No way are they going to mess their hair up or have wet hair for the rest of the day so I am not surprised with this report.

Taking a shower in a public place actually decreases hygiene.

It is a huge source of fungal infections of the foot. Instead PE should be scheduled at the end of a school day, so kids can shower at home IMO.

Public showers really gross me out... I dislike people smelling of sweat as well (especially sweat that's already a few days old), but at least you won't catch anything from that.

Naw, you stink! Big Smile Big Smile Big Smile

BTW am I the only one here who used to went to schools where after PE you just didn't have enough time - until your next class started - to shower? The 'breaks' between two classes were not long enough to do this and our PE teachers do not gave us an initial ten minutes at the end of the classes so there you go - we smelt like a lion's den every time after spending 45 minutes out there playing football.
The good thing that everybody smelled so no social injustice or anything like this happened, all the boys stunk. In every classroom.
In the later years we were lucky to have PE as our last class overall, but the damage was already done.

i shower once in three months and i think that is pretty good

joking aside if most of the children didn't take showers in schools
it doesn't mean necessarily they stink
some kids are just insecure about their body and showing it in public
and some others find public places disgusting since they have to share the space with others
i am sure most of them once they get home they clean themselves

Me and my friends use to chase frogs using bows and arrows we used to build by ourselves using the iron structure of used umbrellas and a rubber band.

...good old times Big Smile Cool

I'm only sorry my son and his friends don't/can't play this way: times have changed...but who knows...now that you kept it back to my mind I may introduce him to some old funny games

PS: sorry for offtopic IceQueenAce. Just for the record I had my last shower Friday lmfao

Lucky you!
I wish that I could complain about kids not using a shower after PE and therefore "stink". I have the impression that real and serious PE is banned from german schools. And I don´t consider dodge ball as a serious kind of PE :/
