Four Of A Kind: Family All Quit Their Jobs To Play Poker

On Monday, there was a pretty interesting article in The Daily Mail on a family of four in the UK that quit their jobs to become professional poker players. The family members told the British newspaper that they take part in three competitions a week, and they claim the secret to their success is a mathematical formula. "In our house, there is a fine line between gambling and poker," said Rich[...]   Read more » Four Of A Kind: Family All Quit Their Jobs To Play Poker

I hope it all works out for them though I don't understand why they think they are not gamblers when one of them said...'If I played you 100 times, I wouldn't beat you 100 times,' he explained, 'but I would beat you more than 50 times, which would mean I'd make money.'........he may be saying that now but everyone has a bad run and I am sure most pro players think they have an edge.
It sounds like the mother was a pretty good player and has obviously taught them well.

"a family of four in the UK quit their jobs to become professional poker players" - they didn't tell that previously they worked as professional slots players (apparently not so successful if they decided to change their profile).

"they claim the secret to their success is a mathematical formula"... 6+9= 69?

"If you meet gamblers, you are going to make money from them" - but after that they are gonna kick your ass take back their money and as a moral compensation your cash as well.

Not a bad idea to quit the jobs to play play poker. It is definitely more fun than working all day. But if the whole family is doing that they need to play a lot of poker to get thei earnings. And I would not give a thing on their mathematical formula!

Seems like a fun thing to do and math is indeed a great factor in poker however the guy saying if he would play someone 100 times he would win more than 50x = b******t , anyone capable of doing the math has the same advantage as him and anyone able to read him / counteruse his math against him would even have a greater advantage.

Its going to be interesting to see how they get on and i really hope that they can make a nice living out of poker. I really admire people who have the guts to try something new.

I thought from the story that this was a recent development and they were going to have amazing results but they have been playing for years and if you look at their Hendon results the "formula" looks like it needs some tweaking as they are no better than good recreational players.
A shame as it's always nice to see something different happening in poker.

Good job, family of four, good job! I guess now that only math teachers and professors are playing poker we - humble hobby players up 4 no good all the time - could retire as a whole from this game since nothing left for us to win. But how come they are still living together, I guess professional poker do not pays for your new house that quickly even if you are good at math.

Well! Good on them for making a big decision in their lives and doing something different. I'm sure there are loads of people who would love to be in this position but are just unable to take the huge step towards it. I hope they do well and will no doubt be interested to see how they get on!

Yeah, maybe there are lots of folks desiring to quit their dayjob and grind all day every day but if you ask me why wouldn't they approached this as a side income while continue doing some part-time job? That way at least their financial security wouldn't be in jeopardy - 'cuz math or no math when the inevitable downswing going to happen they will face some hard times I think.
