Hi All! As I posted earlier, I have won a seat at WPT Montreal. The problem is that I am a virtual rookie at live play and big buy ins both. I know the basics (pot/implied, imp. of pos., use of C-bet, chk raise etc) but know crap about live or big buy specifics. I will, of course, analyze my table to decide on an aggro vs. safe slant, but any advise would be great! Especially if you have played in a big event. Thanx!!!
I have a few - dont be scared to put chips in the pot, dont bluff till last 2 tabels and most of all - if this is ur first live tourny - have fun like u done this before - maybe it gets under ur skin. Be brave to fold 2 aces if theres a chance some has hit something by the look at the board specialy if there are middle cards in a row and dont fold bad cards if there wasnt a raise. Sometimes happends that they show up on the board . If ur stack is runing low awoid any bet and wait for a realy strong pair to go all in. Once again have fun and try not to bust out early - thats the priority.

other than that, you can smoke weed at the tables to relax a bit and pull off a bluff or two with confidence of a major pro. if you find a hot chick at your table and you are in a hand with her, after she makes a move, stare at her b00bs for 5 mins saying "i'm trying to get a read on you".
I only played 1 live tourney with a 50 buy in with around 150 players made the final table finished in 8th place had AA twice on the final table with no action my advice play tight aggressive poker good luck and run deep

Well just go out there and have fun and who knows what might happens you will surely have a good time and if you managed to win it afterwards the better and you could go out with a lot of money and so on, so good luck mate have fun hopefully you will make it to the live game, cheers keep it up and good luck again for the tournament, me going to rest now, i dont have anything to do, already placed some bets and chilling lol, cheers !!

I believe the best thing you can do, is to start playing as many live games as you can to get the hang of it No need to be huge games, just to familiarize yourself with the whole concept I wish you good luck and to reach the money at least.

... < I've never been there dude,...but my advice would be to just play it really cool,...maybe more of a tight aggressive style...! The LAST thing you want to do is get all caught up in the moment,...get all overwhelmed,...and get yerself knocked out before the cash...!

This will work on a regular chick too with just an average set of boobs. But if he is lucky he'll get Jennifer Tilly playing at his table

Well done. If you get the opportunity to do so, go to the venue some days before the event in which you are playing to register at the club and familiarise your with the layout of the tables, bars, toilets etc. It's amazing how this will help you on event day as you won't look like you've never been there before and that suggests you have played there before.

Good Luck in the WPT , hope you live in montreal. The only advice i would give is don't be afraid. If you show you are, then the other players will spot this. Just go in relaxed and ready to play. Hope you do well.

The calm part will be tough, I will be excited for sure!!! I am an a;;-in smoker, so that will be tough! I have had a toke or 2 in the casino smoking area in the couple local $100 buy ins, but I am not sure what's at risk if I try that in Moreal, could they disqualify me perhaps? I have read the rules, and they leave a LOT of leeway to the host! I live in S. On , Damosk, so 6.5hrs drive, or about 3 or so to fly, so a pain, but I was thinking about a pre-event visit, But I am sooo busy with work, and only 1 month away, so I might not get a chance! I am good with dogs Crash, I know no fear! (oops, 'show' no fear)! It rally helps, I think, to have freerolled in, so no $ pressure. But geez, a what, 1 in a tho shot at a mill roughly? Some pressure for a pore old bastard for sure! ... Can I vape there, hmmm..

... < I don't think there's much of a problem with 'toking' in Quebec...about the most liberal minded place in this hemisphere... Heck,....even the thickly moustached cops would probably even help you out scoring a nugget of black hash...

Well done on your win Hunter,a great satellite to have managed to win.If you have not played many live tournaments then maybe you should go to your local casino and buy in to the cheapest games just to get a feel of live play.As for big buy ins there is not much you can do to get used to that but I am sure there will be plenty of other players with little experience.
Not sure about the no smoking laws considering the playground poker club is in the indian reserve of Kahnawake. I know there was room where you could smoke at the Stardust so I guess you're gonna be fine at the playground. Lots of poker players smoke.
By the way, the food and drinks are free at the playground, but I'm not sure if that's only when you're playing cash games.
My advice: Don't change your play too much because. But be aware that pros not only understand the maths but the psychology and patterns. So try to mix it up a bit, because I doubt playing tight ABC poker is enough to have an edge against these guys Like Phil Ivey says, great things happen when you get out of your comfort zone.
I don't know if you won your entry in a live or online game as my only advice would be you should play the same way you did in the live game you earned your entry if not go watch some high standard live tournament poker videos to learn interesting stuffs...
