Tim Peake - British Astronaut  0
Tim Peake leaves Russia on a rocket tomorrow morning, heading into space. Exciting to think that on board are the herb seeds I will be growing in my classroom in just a few short months. Fingers crossed all goes well!

So the seeds go to space and then he will bring them back untouched? Or will he grow some hemp? Will they be handed over to you and then you going to analyze them? Or are you going to plant them and watch for mutations?
Or is he going to make some nice hydro space haze? Are you a teacher or student?

Lot of questions Big Smile I know!

thanks in advance. Worship

Yeah good questions

So basically they have packets of seeds that are going into space and then when they get back to earth they get sent to a few lucky schools alongside a pack of seeds that haven't been into space. The seeds are rocket seeds, which are a type of herb.
Schools don't get told which packet have been into space and have to keep a strict log of how each set of seeds grow.

The idea is, they are testing the effects on food in space for when we populate other planets. I don't care too much for the reason, I just wanna get the kids in my class excited about science. You never know, I might have the next nobel prize winner in my class just waiting for the chance to shine

I don't know, just taking a packet of seeds to outer space, then bringing them back and planting them.
I don't see where this would make any difference to the seeds.
I think if you wanted to see how they grow out there, then you would have to plant them out there.
The conditions out would be man made, where here there just natural.

So i really think this is a useless experiment.

Merry Christmas to All. Thumbs Up

It is to see the effect of seeds in space, not the plants. Comparing what happens to them when they have been in space and how well they grow

OK, well the main thing here is getting the kids into it.
get them away from their Iphones and games.
And get them thinking about science.
Good Luck. Thumbs Up

... Big Smile< I fail to see how the words... 'British' and 'Astronaut' can be used in the SAME sentence...

... Big Smile< That's like using the words... 'British' and 'toothbrush',.....or 'British' and 'car' or even 'British' and the phrase 'Fine Dining' in the same sentences.... Tongue

... Big Smile< ...anyhow.... VERY Cool Icy One... I've got the NASA TV Channel and watch all the launches and landings that I can... I also watch the Space Station fly overhead whenevr possible... Maybe your class's seeds will be onboard....

... Big Smile< Here's a link,...type in your town or the closest town to you for flyover times...:

... Big Smile< The absolute COOLEST thing I saw one night about 6 or so years ago was when the Space Shuttle had detached from,...then trailed behind the Station about 1km for a day... I was just sittin' out in the back yard one night and looked to the southwest by chance and saw the TWO bright dots moving in sync... THAT was SO cool...!!! Thumbs Up

Thats awesome ty very much.

Showed my class the launch today, they are so buzzing about it.

We are going to do a space shuttle time line now, and move the space station along, they will love it
