Legal status of online poker in Australia  0
Hi everyone!!

Been a VERY long time since I've posted here, hope ya'll doing well and kicking some ass on the virtual felt.

I post today because of some unfortunate news.

Australia is about to put some legislation to vote that could prohibit online gaming - including poker.

PokerStars have recently made a statement that if the law passes, then they WILL pull out of the Australian market!!!

Most likely if Stars pull out, so will all the other well-regulated sites.

We will be left with the shitty, unregulated poker rooms that still accept American players. These rooms regularly steal play account funds and are a haven for criminals (bots, collusion rings, super users, etc).

We need online poker to be excluded from this bill!!

Time is almost up - but you can still put in a submission to our government and explain why online poker should be allowed!

I've made a submission myself (see number 21).

GO to this site to make a submission:

http://www.aph.gov.au/senate_ec

And you can email this address with your own submission:

[email protected]

Please do it!

Anyone in Australia who DOES NOT make a submission has absolutely ZERO right to complain in the future when we lose online poker.

Now is the time to fight. Make a submission. make your voice heard. Be polite, informed and most of all - be convincing!

We need this!

We need you!

I can only express sympathy and regret from this law ... we in Russia offline gambling was banned a few years ago and I was very unhappy with this because ... but often played online games until we have banned, and I hope that this terrible law will not be accepted

look who's back... nice to see a familiar face from waaaaaaay back when i was a young pochui. now with all that rosy talk over i must admit that i don't really give a sh1t whether online poker will be banned in australia or not... so jess- it looks like you should start thinking about moving to zimbabwe or ivory coast if you want to continue your online poker career.

Pretty much a waste of time. No matter how many you will get to sign, they will do whatever they
want.
The only time your voice can be heard "supposedly" Smile) is the time you are voting for them.
Then its over till the next time, there are elections Smile

Hey welcome back to the beautiful bankrollmob forum Jessthehuman! I was wondering if you were dead or something the other day... Worship Still grinding poker or have you stopped playing because you were a degenerate gambler? Blink Just kidding I know you had some nice wins.

Anyways, I heard about that... I think regulations are gonna make online poker impossible in the future if we don't do anything but it's kind of the same thing with music, movies ect. being downloaded for free on the internet. But what can we do against a stupid governement?

Hi, jessthehuman. Welcome back to the forum.
We are so sorry to hear about your situation.

I just googled Australian gambling and betting laws by state and territories. Intentionally ambiguous statutes have got my mind boggled.

ok ok jess i am seriously considering changing my opinion on the question by 180 degrees (pretty much like trump does all the time) and actually making a submission using the links you provided. i am forcing myself to go through all of these hurdles just to see you back on the forum and sharing your epic wisdom on a regular basis.

Dont mind me, i am just here to pick up some points, have nothing to say wisdom wise, happy to pick those 10 points and be on my marry way Big Smile good luck with the discussion Big Smile

aye, picking up some points is indeed an addicting activity that should not be treated lightly, it's a serious work requiring commitment, effort and time to pull it off and become a mob points legend also known as mobpoints whore in the less educated public. so what about poker in australia?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the support so far. The fight isn't over yet. however - a few days ago 888 (triple 8 for those with adblock) (one of the largest providers in Australia) decided to give up the fight early and has already sent out emails to their Australian customers advising them to withdraw funds.

Poker Stars is staying the course- but they HAVE said they WILL pull out of the Australian market if this legislation passes.

Online poker in Australia could be dead as early as the end of this month Sad

Here are a couple more links:

This first one is just for Australian Tax payers: put in your info and a letter will be sent to your local MP

http://www.taxpayers.org.au/keep_online_poker_legal

This next link is a standard online petition "change.org" link that ANYONE can (and should) sign. Remember - this doesn't just effect Aussies - but every time another country drops from the shared player pool, everyone loses.

https://www.change.org/p/keep-online-poker-in-australia

Thanks everyone

And I will try and stick around a bit more now.. To be honest - I spent a long time away from po ker in general.. I just.. needed a break I guess.. But I've started playing again recently.. Going well, cashed for around $3K on Stars MTTs in the last week, so that's been great Smile

Coming from a $4 satellite into a $44 Bounty builder, and a direct buy-in to a $16.50 HOT game (which was disappointing, came 3/1056 which is great, but I had a 3:1 chip lead over 2nd place when we were down to three and I went from being a huge chip leader, to out of the game, in three hands - all coolers. Was pretty sick. but still, cashed around AUS$2K for 3rd, so can't complain).

Hope you're all doing well..

Good to see there are still so many of the old regs about !! Good stuff Thumbs Up

Yeah - I am lucky in that I live in Melbourne, not far from Crown Casino - so I can catch plenty of live action if I want.. But I'm an MTT player.. so .. playing 50 people at Crown is a SNG for an online MTT regular!

edit; That said - in some ways you are lucky. Crown casino - and our other major casinos, like Star - are putting HUGE amounts of money behind the lobbying to get online poker banned effectively.

So by not having local (incredibly wealthy) competition lobbying against you.... Thumbs Up
