Footballer bet against own team - fined €100,000!

Oliver Deschacht, a 35-year-old Belgian footballer who plays as a left back for Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League, has been slapped with a €100,000 fine for allegedly having bet on his own team to lose, including a Champions League match where his team were defeated by Paris Saint-Germain with 5-0 (Deschacht was on the bench throughout the match). Footballer bet against own team - fined €100,000!  0
Again a similar story that was put on the news lately again involving players betting in matches where they know some extra information. And again the player was not playing himself ao why be is not allowed to place a bet is strange, maybe he is not a human, maybe someone no like that he wins.

well, what to say on this!he wanted to earn money or like he says, his brother was betting, but account is on his name and bet was on game where his club is in!ofcourse he is in problem and now he dont have anything to complain!

This is a case, that someone needs not to wonder why he got a fine.
Active player betting against his own team?
This can lead to w hole new level of investigation.
Like we have never seen in soccer, matches between two teams being sold Smile

some sort of murky history .. can be a player and not guilty but that tells me that from what he had something to do with this story .. and if there is a suspicion that it is necessary to do so .. Let us now his brother

This is a very big fine and he must have been placing some pretty hefty wagers on these games. It is crazy to me, that these highly paid players would risk being caught for an extra couple of quid

ok so lets get this straight- dude was betting against his team, but had no direct involvement in the game, and dude was betting that psg was going to win against anderlecht, heck in champions league everyone who plays vs anderlech is a clear winner so why is this wrong, betting on anderlech to lose is 100% sure, so better just remove this option from the offer and no one gets hurt

the guy said that it is his brother who used his account to make the bet so if this is true then they are both very dumb, the brother should have created his own account is that hard to do? NO the footballer is stupid to give away his details that is username and password even if it is to a family member, YOU SHOULD NEVER. Now pay the price €100,000 even you were not involved...

if this is only price that he need to pay,no other penalties, then he can be satisfied with this and continue with his life!even if his brother done this,he can be happy with this!now he will know how to act in life!

It's funny because even some subtitutes could get payed like 100k on PSG every one or two weeks, so it's not like this is an unreachable achievement in modern football anywhere - but this guy sadly plays for Anderlecht which - CL or not - underpays even their veteran footies or it seems they do.
Strong manly tears. Yeah, no. Big Smile

my dog ate my homework sounds more plausible than his lame excuse.
in any case....he should either get a fine for having a dumb excuse or generaly being dumb.

regardless if its forbidden or not, you shouldnt bet against your own team in the first place. i would fire him if i was his manager. you can never win if you dont believe in your self.

once again...insider knowledge. you know whos injured, you know whos got a run and who doesnt and so on.

You also know, who has loose shoe laces and can trip on then and fall the moment they
are about to score Smile Sorry my bad, i guess i should have changed to a new pair,
before the game started... So many things than can go "wrong" in a game.

I read a few years ago the same story, looks in Belgium many players gamble,I think that several players suspended by the Football Federation of Belgium, but I also know that in the second league Belgium many matches suspect I know that their salaries are much lower and many players bet,so many times I lost profit due to Anderlecht Angry

Well I am curious if you have the same observations as me of Belgiiums 2nd leaague. Can you tell me what suspicious matches/clubs you have seen.... or have doubts about

It's hard to believe a professional athlete would do something so stupid... He could atleast have friends he trusts do the bets for him. There's absolutely no reason to do the bets yourself especially if you know you're gonna get fined for it for collusion.

But yeah, athletes aren't all Albert Einsteins I guess. Lol

100k isn't necessarly a huge fine for a football player though.

I still think that all this ban of betting for one or another reason is no good and does not work at all. In this situation he was caught because he or gis brother was so stupid and used real names, when they could ask for a friend to create account and do the betting on it.

This isn`t a issue of intelligence,,,,he and his brother are beyond stupid,,,but, yes, they could of easily hid alot better, and they have moral issues,,,like cmon,,just bet on other sports than football idiots,,,they both have enough money already as footballers make lots of money,,,,i hate greed more than stupidity but both makes it twice as bad.

you know there were several players from Macedonia in the second league Belgium, there are a lot of players from Serbia also and there was always some info about some game that in the end it was true Smile I regularly bet on Belgian first and second division, most of the money I won betting on Belgian and Dutch league Big Smile they are my favorite,I will not argue about this, but I think you can read a few years ago that there was a Chinese guy who bought a club in Belgium and in Finland and many suspect results were about the two clubs in their championships

There are some crazy rules about betting when you are a sports person and still people get caught out....what's even worse is when people use false names to lay bets and then complain about it when they get caught out! Rules is rules and rules is there to be followed.... and broken at your peril. Who do they think they are...over and above the law?

They were porbably bored or needed some hand-on cash fast. It's not something unheard of especially in soccer tbh.
