AbsolutePoker is now a VIRUS  +1
As of their most recent update (v8.5.2) AbsolutePoker now contains the virus TROJAN HORSE GENERIC12.LEV

Weird thing is that google does not throw anything about this trojan out. Nothing, only 2 advertised links which are not related to trojan but are links to some AV linked sites.

Run full system scan with rootkit scan too, maximum settings and leave it overnight to complete if you have lots of data on HDD. This may not be related to absolute poker at all but to some false AVG alert, looks like it is AVG false. Sometimes AV programs recognize clean processes as malicious only because of their behavior, usually if AV program cannot identify the malicious code it throws some name by default with word "generic" in it.

I was looking around and noticed this post, and I just have to add that the same thing happend to me, but in my case I use BitDefender, and I had to open an exception just to install the darn thing.
I'm sorry to say this but there's defevetly something fishy about absolute poker's software. Sad

Im gunna throw a thought into the ring regarding this.

I dont think it is a conventional trojan, but perhaps it is the element of the software that looks for win hold'ems, cos it does stuff that is perhaps a little underhand whilst scanning / observing you, they pick it out as a virus?

Regards
Saint

Exactly, when AP client starts scanning processes for forbidden software on your computer it behaves similar to virus and thus AV programs can make false positive on client software.

Ye AVG sometimes thinks that some poker program got a virus attached, same as NOD32.. When i downloaded Titan Poker it said it had a virus but when i scanned with a different virusscan it was clean..

AVG gives a lot of false positives, that's probably the case. I know everytime I download a program from a torrent site, someone always posts "Virus, trojan don't download, scanned with AVG" but it is clean.

Not saying AP is clean though..

Same thing here. So - Trojan or just Absolute's software sticking it's nose in - interesting point

- ALL these poker sites have access to your system, process's, directorys etc - your computer in fact, so they ARE Backdoor/Trojan's - they could do a lot of damage if they wanted to (or somebodyhacked their code) - just by installingt the software you're allowing them a LOT of access. Install something like "Poker Bodyguard" and it'll show you just what they look at - can be interesting.

If you want to be sasfe, setup your machine with a restricted account or install something like the above (not a fan of that perticular program but haven't found anything free that's better yet).

At the end of the day it's your choice - most people just don't realise how intrusive these programs are and could be.

.... why ?

Yeah, usually if AVG comes up with a "generic" virus/trojan it's a false positive - I don't use their software but I know AP has had a lot of bad publicity because of cheating on their site - so I would imagine they are being very careful to avoid anything that is going to get their name out there for something bad again.

Good luck on the felts

Zone Alarm also throws too many false positives and alerts. Put ZA on maximum and it will start recognizing windows processes as threats too.
