Keep in mind to play more than just your hand. Dont over play AK...this is really not that great when it does not connect. You might as well have 6-5 if you do not at least pair you hole cards. Do not go around shoving preflop with this hand. Definately raise preflop but only to 2.5x-3.0x and keep in mind position is everything. Be aware of your image (have you been playing a lot of hands or only a few) as well as everyone elses. Do not just think that this is a game of luck, there is a lot of skill involved and you need to capitalize on your ability if you are a thinking player. Plus Pokerstars low limit tournaments are basically a free-roll. I would suggest sticking to the cash games as there is a lot more money to be made on the ring tables than on these low buy in tournaments on the major sites (ie pokerstars, full tilt, etc.)
just finished 4th in a stars 18 man. was in the lead with 6 players and had 2 all in. im holding aces and lose to someone that gets a 2pair. left with about 2bb i push with 24off and am called by AKs. i win with a pair of 2s.
so always push with trash hands and fold monsters.

Posted by shokaku: AKo vs 98s is only a 60 to 40 favorite. So you will lose a decent amount of times against those suited connectors. Get used to it.
Exactly, AKo and AKs are nice hands but be carefull putting your whole tourney on stake with it. Any pair is ahead and sooted connectors are not far behind.

Your going to lose the AK vs 98s much more often than say AK vs AQ or AJ, this is why it's often not a bad play to push with 98s when short stacked and trying to steal. You generally won't ever be dominated and if you get called by an overpair you at least have a chance to hit a flush or straight.

Ak is always a drawing hand, when you go allin with Ak you are always taking a chance and if you don't hit a/k then you will lose big most of the times. and 89s are not bad cards to play with, as when they hit they win big. If you play low stakes people will gamble more and you will have more badbeats.

I've got some really bad experiences with Pokerstars aswell, although it IS probably the best site out there. But that's why I only play poker with friends nowadays If they win like that I can atleast kick their butts

It's just fate my friend.. I've been crushed by much worse complete tripe hands than some 89's... I tear the wings off of an angel each and every time I get BS'ed by some milktoast who hits trips / full house with his original pocket twos... that's life + poker + bullshizz.

I agree with most of the users.
AK shouldn't be overrated. It is a very good hand to move all-in with, but unless you feel ICM cna justify it a call would probably be wrong. Even against 72 you are not more than 2 to 1 favourite (approximately).
I recently had a lot worse bad beat that still bugs me, but that is how poker is. I was in a heads up in a 3500 GP on Ipoker - stacks was almost equal, I was a bit shorter though and suddenly we went all-in - I had KK and the other guy 78 suited --> and he hit two 8'ts...... Maybe I came in second, but in that particular moment I felt cheated out on 450 dollars by Ipoker..... But hey like I said thats poker.......
