High Stakes poker: Famous pokerstar keeps on losing money

Daniel Negreanu keeps on losing big money in the popular TV show High Stakes Poker. In the last episode of high stakes poker he lost everything he had on the table so he had to re-buy for another $200,000 to stay in the high stakes game with blinds of $400/$800.

Daniel Negreanu can't get anything going at the moment. He's waiting and waiting for playable hands, and when he finally gets them, usually the board isn't so kind to him. One example of this is when Daniel had 10-9 (clubs) and called a quite big raise from Eli Elezra who had pocket aces. The flop came Q-2-4, two of them clubs which game Daniel the flush draw. Elezra was first to act and he betted $17,300, Daniel re-raised to $44,100 straight away. After that Elezra decided to re-raise Daniel to $119,100 and Daniel decided to put in his remaining $226,300, which Elezra called after a moment of thinking. When both of them flipped over their cards Elezra was 67% favorite to win the hand against Daniels 33%. Unfortunately for Daniel Negreanu neither the turn nor the river card helped him and Elezra took home the monster pot of $487,700. After that Daniel had no more money and had to go and get more so he could buy-in again for another $200,000, just to stay in the game.

Negreanu is superb good in reading other players hands, and he has also good skill of reading other players hand

More correct. He is good in reading other players hands, figuring out he is behind, but calling anyway. Cool

I think you could criticize him when you will be able to do that :

Webs - do you think Daniel is the only pro out there that can read that good - cause I don't. He's the only one that will verbalize it but others can read just as good. They just choose to keep it to themselves.

While Daniel calling your hand can be intimidating I think him telling his opponents is in itself a mistake.

If you have a good read on a player why alert him to the fact so he can start changing his betting lines and mixing it up. Far better to keep it to yourself and keep your read solid and why do you want to share this info with the rest of the table?

It's great for the telly and has helped his popularity no end but it's time he stopped this little party piece of his if he wants to win more poker games. You would think he knows better than I but I believe there is a good reason why so very few of the top pros do it.

Hm yea you are probably right. But maybe he just wanted to throw them off balance.

But I don't like the fact that most people here say that he's a donk, a 'kid' who should stop playing poker. I would like to see them in front of him, it's easy to criticize him while he's playing with some of the best players of the world.

How can you not like him ? He is one of the friendliest pro, and even if NL High Stakes is not his strongest game, don't forget that he won 4 WSOP bracelets, finished in the WSOP money 34 times, finished 11th at the 2001 main event, final table at the WSOPE main event last year, won 2 EPT titles, 8 EPT final tables, and finished in the EPT money 18 times.
So don't worry about his money Worship

Daniel is a great player, or at least he was. These days he seems to take the game lightly and if you're going to do that you should be doing it with small amounts of cash, not $200,000

I do like him, he's one of my fav players to watch and he's certainly no donk, but he ain't the daddy any more. A few years ago he was and it was soooo sad to see him getting pwned this current series. In previous series he has just been coolered in a few monster hands but he's played as well as anyone - not this time though.

I really hope he makes the necessary adjustments to his game and comes back to the top. He can start by learning to 3-bet.

The game has changed so much but the other "old boys" at the table, Elly, Greenstein, and Doyle, all adapted well and were able to hold there own with Durrrr and his antics but not so for Daniel.

Daniel is coming back for part two though so lets hope he can fair better in this second session. If he plays the same Patric Antonius is gonna break him. Be warned in advance about this dangerous Fin.

I used to loose lot of money playing this way. Playing whit emotional wish to recover quickly or raise quickly the amount.

but I play only freerolls. Smile

whatever you say about negreanu he is one hell of a player.

Also he does more for the game behind the scenes than most people realise. He is always involved in promoting the game, improving rules, legislation and things like that.

He may be slightly irritating but hes Mr Poker personified.

He'll be back to the next show and we'll see if he keeps losing, imo he must change his game as the one he used to play in the previous show really sucks. It was like a guy playing tilting poker Thumbs Down

thanks
 Whiskerer08/04/2009 16:30:07 GMT
Yes he has lost a lot of money, and I agree I don't care too much for his game this season around, but earlier seasons he has played great easily one of the best ones around the table those times, don't really know what has happened to his game now, but loosing 5 years in a row on HSP isn't the same as a 5 year downswing, if you compare it to online poker it isn't much more than a week or two of multi tabeling down swing.

Daniel has been playing terrible in this 5th season, especially when Neyamine hat the quads

he is still a class act though, tipping the dealer generously after he lost about 500 K

hope he regroups fast
 ArpSoft17/04/2009 16:41:45 GMT
