The story about Jeffrey Lisandro

Tags: Jeffrey Lisandro, The Iceman.
Posted on 29 June 2009 by "T".

Jeffrey Lisandro has really taken the world of poker by storm in WSOP 2009 after that he has achieved something that no one has ever done before, to take down 3 events (Stud High, Stud High-Low, and Razz) in the same WSOP. This is for sure one of the biggest milestones in Jeffrey Lisandro's poker career. But this successful man has achived so much more that many people don't know about...

Jeffrey Lisandro, or "The Iceman" as many people call him, was born in Perth, Australia 43 years ago. His interest for poker came from his mother who taught him to play at the age of 5. Even though Jeff was born and bred in Australia, he has been moving around quite a lot as he has lived in 3 countries, Australia, Italy and USA. He still owns a home in Santa Barbara, but is now located in Salerno, Italy, which he consider his home. Jeff is part from being a great tournament player also very good at cash games. In fact many people consider him to be one of the best cash game players in the world. And it's for his seemingly cold and calculating disposition while playing cash game's he has gotten the nickname "The Iceman".

What many people don't know about Jeff is that he used to be real estate investor before he decided to play poker full time, a choice that he never would regret. His breakthrough in tournament poker came back in 1997 when he made his first final table appearance in the $3,000 pot limit hold´em event won by no one less than Phil Hellmuth. Since then Jeff has been on another 10 final tables in WSOP, Omaha, seven card stud and 2 to 7 lowball and won four bracelets, two in Seven Card Stud, one in Seven Card Stud hi/low and one in Razz. Throughout all the years, Jeff has cashed in not less than 46 tournaments!

Many people probably would agree that it's in WSOP 2009 Jeffrey Lisandro really has shown the world what an amazing poker player he is. But what many probably didn't know is that he had a quite hard time before WSOP 2009 as he couldn't find a single sponsor.

-"I was very disappointed before this year's WSOP started because I couldn't find a sponsor. I checked with my regular contacts and also with some of my friends, but no response. Maybe it's because I never made a really big cash in any tornament? Anyway, when I didn't find a sponsor I told myself that I will take part anyway and I also told the contacts and friends that didn't want to sponsor me that I would win 3 bracelets in WSOP 2009, which I already have done."

But even after he Jeffrey Lisandro won his third bracelet no one has contacted him about sponsoring.

-"Even though I have won 3 bracelets in WSOP 2009, not a single sponsor has contacted me yet. Maybe there is some kind of jealousy in the picture? Or maybe it has to do with something that I knocked out so many well known players?"

Even though Jeffrey Lisandro has won 4 bracelets and probably is the most well known and respected poker player from Australia, he still dont think that he's the best.

-"In Australia, I don't think anyone is bigger than Joe Hachem. To win the main event in WSOP like he did, is an amazing achievement which he always will be remembered for. It's like horse racing, I could win 10 races after each other, but still everyone would remember the one who won the Kentucky Derby".

Jeff Lisandro has had the best mother he could wish for. Someone who certainly knew how hard life was and teach her kid how to safe himself in the real world from as little as five years old ("Its a jungle out there son! But if you know how to play well this little game mummy's gonna teach you now, you will be safe for the rest of your life..." Blink. Big Smile

The Italian poker player is a great player, a winner, with four brasaletes to see who wants to be the best in his modaledades, truly a view to either play in the wsop tournament or learn a lot, like to see Phil is also a great player.
