Video: Gus Hansen's worst bluff ever

Tags: bad, bluff, eli elezra, gus hansen, high stakes poker, worst bluff ever.
Posted on 09 March 2010 by "T".

In an episode in season 6 of High Stakes Poker, Gus Hansen, the Full Tilt Pro, tried to buy a pot from Eli Elezra with some really bad bluffing from begin to end. What makes it even worse is the fact that Gus Hansen had absolutely no draws or anything and still he couldn't lay down his hand. The bluff costed Gus Hansen around $100,000! However, its for sure not the last time we see Gus Hansen make a crazy play like this one.

Gus Hansen was after the show interviewed by the host Kara Scott. Kara was of course very interested to know what Gus had to say about the bluff which failed.

"I like my bets on flop and turn, but I hate the ace on the river. And still I decide to make another big bet, which really seemed like an obvious bluff. This is probably the worst bluff I have made in my entire poker career."

Wots wrong about this bluff? Dont see.
Elezra is the one that suck not Hansen.
 Hajinnho09/03/2010 16:20:29 GMT
dozn01 is right. I dont think its too bad either. Everyone knows that guess is a loose aggressive player. So he has got a high range.

KQ,KJ stuff.
pockets like 99
and even suited connectors like 34 or something like that. He tries to use this so his opponent gives him a hand.... Unfortunately, Elezra doesnt Blink

OMG!
I love this guy though.
Read his book "All hands revealed". Incredibly interesting stuff.
A bit too crazy for me, but I picked up a lot of his thinking and made 1st in a 5000 runner tourney the week after.
So It's not ALL crazy!
This bluff was though.... Confused

I agree with Doomdy,
even if he won the pot I think Elezra played worse than Gus;
he is only check-calling not protecting his toppair (with bad kicker) and still check calling postriver with second pair the strong hansen Cbets...
but maybe he had some very good reads on Hansen to pplay that way

was not a very bad bluff i mean elezra make some donkey call and if he win hes a genius and make a good read over elezra

Elezra is NEVER folding a king here. And Gus has to give him a king.

Nope. Elezra may call a bit light in general, but that makes this bluff even worse.

First, I wouldn't call it the worst bluff ever. He did make good bets, but unfortunately the river card was a bad one. 2nd wasn't wise to do it against Elezra, a loose player that like to gamble.

Can't see anything wrong here ... just a unlucky bluff:-??

Cool I like Gus a lot and really like his style of play...but this takes the piss out of pro's..lol
What the hell did he think he was doing? I just love it when you get to see something like this from a top pro..... they have crazy moments just like you or me...hahahahaha
Unlucky Gus....lol better look at your own cards next time and not try and out play people with out the holding....yeah!
 Flippedchips09/03/2010 23:03:02 GMT
lol im surprised no one has said this is just donk wars as most people on BRM only play As and Ks Big Smile if this was someone from the forum thats what would be said.
and i dont think elezra played it bad i think hes sure gus dont have a K and if gus wants to keep firing let him plus if he reraises and gus comes back over the top he has to fold i think hes wanting to just call him to the river because he thinks his Ks good. and another thing as gus says in the interview when he bets the the 60k on the river if he has the K its a split pot so of course elezra is calling anyway and alot of people here is saying its a good bluff, gus says himself it was a really bad bluff
 dozn0110/03/2010 01:57:14 GMT
ive just watched it again and i think gus did this just for tv, and to prove to the other pros
that he can bluff, so next time they are in a pot with gus they will be thinking is he bluffing like he did with elezra?? hmmmm..... but hes holding the nuts......... call him next time and find out...

this could be good tactics Tongue

i dont think so because he walks away from the table and says it was such a bad bluff and laughs and says he could get bad bluff of the year but hmmmmm u might be right he maybe just thought he will give 95k away to elezra for table image because hes going to be bluffing alot after that, im sure that was not his plan.

One thing is for sure phil ivey is playing shit hot his steal with the 72 was nice Thumbs Up

I don't agree. In flop, when Gus tried to bluff and he was called, at that moment he was unlucky. It was clear Elezra had something. Turn didn't help Gus so ... why still going on with your bluff? No draw at all ... just a very bad bluff. You can take in account you are not playing for $1
 Airas10/03/2010 10:32:23 GMT
I hate this guy, he has made to the top with luck and luck only if you ask me. Anyone can play as he can.
 gemic10/03/2010 11:24:18 GMT
I think it's not that bad bluff, although the split pot chance reduces the danger for the caller. Only player with good read, calling station or real gambler would call without any worries Smile
 SuperNoob10/03/2010 12:58:17 GMT
these kind of things are expected from gus hansen, he's known for crazy things.
elezra also knows this and thats why he didn't fold and won a big pot from him.
 DaneMitic10/03/2010 14:43:04 GMT
gus sucks anyway

THIS! I think you can see it that way or this way. Elezras calls are in my eyes funny too.
 gemic10/03/2010 17:00:51 GMT
I am still wondering what would have to be made different that he would believe in an ace.
 Chartoule10/03/2010 17:55:22 GMT
awesome.. Everyone have bad days, Gus Hansen too. His crazy game don´t work this time.
 Puuuru10/03/2010 19:29:52 GMT
thinks like this just happen, big deal..

 pmgignac22/03/2010 12:10:50 GMT
its a bluff whats wrong would it
isint that why we call that a bluff
would not be a bluff with aces
maby not the good player to bluff on that hand but gus has a good player riding
guess he realy tought he could make him fold...hey shit happens
 Btownd8706/04/2010 16:41:37 GMT
