Raid against poker club

Tags: krukan, police, raid, razzia, stockholm, sweden.
Posted on 24 May 2010 by "T".

The poker club Krukan in Stockholm is the biggest poker club in Sweden since it opened last year. Krukan is known to be a serious club where no shady business whatsoever is going on. However, sometimes that's not even enough. Last Friday the police (by order of the lottery inspection and office of the public prosecutor) paid them a visit. Around 80-100 players were at that time in the club, playing tournaments and cash games. The police stopped all games at once, took everyones personal details and confiscated all chips/tokens.

The whole swedish poker community are, to say the least, extremely pissed off with what happened and how the swedish government/police/lottery inspection etc treat poker clubs in general. Facebook groups (many notables have already joined) have been created, people who were at the club write about it in their blogs and many, many threads in different forums have been created. It will be very interesting to see how it progresses. In the past few years, many poker players have decided to leave their native countries because of stuff like this. What will happen this time? One thing is for sure, the swedish government does everything to protect the gambling monopoly.

Of cause. The monopoly allows them to print money. The goverments all over europe will defend this 'till the very end.

Why did decide to do this ? Is it forbidden to play live in Sweden ? And, if yes, why did giovernment allow to open this club ?

Hello everybody!
These really unpleasant atmosphere for the players. Safely play poker and see the police as if they were landed in a brothel.
See you soon for new posts lol!

It appears that there is a centralized effort to prohibit poker globally. This totally goes against the freedom of choice.

the only reason for this is the goverment want take the tax for his own. When u play in a casino thats legal and the goverment take the tax wtf. It´s the same in germany and many other country´s.I´m thinking to go life in netherlands i´m meaning thats absolut legal to play online poker there anyone know thats true?
 IslandJack25/05/2010 11:53:01 GMT
@watoba
It's still true in the Netherlands and in Belgium.
The Belgians are looking to screw this up as well, but since we have no government half the time (like now), it might take a while.... Big Smile

Well, think of all potential tax-earnings on gambling. They do have to make sure everything is legit because they pay for hospitals and roads with this money. They should return whats confiscated once everything checks out.

better watch it or they will be shut down and policed like USA

It's weird that stuff like this happens in the Sweden, i mean after all isn't that the country that houses the banks that holds the money of many of the world's dictator. Hell, being from the Philippines, i know that our former president's (e.g. dictator) money, which he so skillfully took from our country is stashed there somewhere.

WTF those sweeds are crazy enough as it is dont start pissing them off when there playing poker.
Thats just rude.
I'd be well pissed off if i was waist deep in chips and then the gavvers busted in and stole my chips. Noooooooooooooooooooo
bigoted freaks. why is it that the government just hates people doing what they want to do?
If the club was well above board then all the players should demand compensation for the emotional stress they have been put under.
 Nevorno26/05/2010 08:36:53 GMT
@NazPal: That would be Switzerland. Back when your president left the Philippines we had a tax on OWNING money in Sweden. If the shit hits the fan again at the next election after this summer, we'll be stuck with that tax once again. Stupid socialists.

Poker clubs aren't forbidden, but playing for cash outside of the goverment-owned casinos is.

 ZmxPowah26/05/2010 19:09:06 GMT
I would be really mad of something like that would happen....
And how u can come back to the casino which u get something like that...
That can easy ruin the casino down...
 Mudadzija29/05/2010 19:03:41 GMT
Confiscated all chips!! Why bother arresting them, just shoot em. They'll shoot themselves anyway.

The country your'e thinking of is Schwitzerland (spelling? Helvetia in their native tounge, I think it is). They got all the banks.

Not that a lot of weird shit doesn't happen in Sweden, but that stuff with the numberaccounts is their doing. Smile

In Sweden everything is forbidden which looks like fun... Compare Gambling to prostitution. both not accepted. To "save" the people of course..

I would bet that government is playing strip poker when nobody´s watching.
 SuperNoob10/06/2010 08:40:12 GMT
hard for serious poker players to continue playing if things like these keep on happening. its hard enough to win at poker and it surely not gonna help when you know police gonna come any sec and stop the game.
