On August 28 the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey kicks off. The world championship in basketball, like football, is one of the biggest happenings in the sport and usually millions of people around the globe are following the tournament. Maybe the worlds biggest poker site can take the world cup to a new level?

Yes, you heard right! Pokestars has just announced that they will sponsor the Spanish basketball association during 2010 FIBA World Championship. The sponsorship is not only good news for the Spanish poker association but also for PokerStars members.

PokerStars will run lots of freerolls with tickets to the world cup games and trainings along with other promotions. All this in order to celebrate the basketball world championship. Maybe PokerStars sponsoring will get some poker lovers into basketball? Let's hope so, because basketball is a great sport that just keep on growing year after year.

In 2010 FIBA World Championship Spain will play Canada, France, Lebanon, Lithuania and New Zealand in group D. Spain is ranked third in the world after USA and Argentina.

hmpf..... Me personally, i would prefer Pokerstars to give more ATTRACTIVE(!!!) Freerolls to their players. Or some more deposit bonusses. In my eyes they dont give a fuck on the small rolls in past. 25% reload bonus was almost the best idea.... and that was in Jan 2010...

even fishes pay you money. And fishes attract more good player as well. And not offering anything at all to little rolls means less prestige. Thats why FullTilt gets more and more succesfull

Now thats good advertising....yeah...1
Pokerstars aint some cheep danndy part time business now is it...!
They know exactly what they are doing and exactly how many extra players they can get just from the advertising and awairness of them as a poker site ... extra revinue will come flooding in as a result of this and a bigger market share defo.
Great / brill / wicked, Its so good that the poker brand / market keeps getting new and exciting players. Promos like this help that no end.

Here in Spain Poker is growing up fastly. PokerStars is investing money in tv shows with famous people and making leagues and promotions in the most important newspapers. Basketball national team is followed by many spanish people becase lastly they have been winning a lot. So ... it's the best chance to attack spanish market

oO and what's the matter? do they have any logical basis for this? why not taking money back from bookmakers?
I guess if yhe government wants to prevent popularisation of betting they should prohibit betting itself, not the sponsorship
