Greece has waited a very long time for the European Poker Tour to pay them a visit. Yesterday, the long wait was finally over as the first ever EPT Loutraki main event kicked off. Day 1a attracted a field of 145 runners who could afford the buy-in of €4,400.

Many all ins and Bad beats later the first day came to and end with 102 remaining players, and Julian Herold, from Germany, is the chip leader with a stack of 138k. A few notables that will join Herold at the poker tables tomorrow are Ana Marques, Chris Moorman and David Vamplew.

Now, it will be interesting to see how many players that will come and play Day 1b today. Let's hope for at least 200 players so there will be a nice prize pool.

I don’t know if this is the best time for EPT to pass in Greece. Everyone knows about the economic difficulties the country is passing and, besides not many amateur to pro players will decide to enter this because of their own financial problems (although many say its people with less money who bets more on “luck games” Blink, having this event advertised on the news can work as another motive for poor people to protest against those who still have money to participate in events of this kind, bringing the possibility of a new riot.

I think it's nice that now (economy crisis) a EPT is played in Greece. I think that the best will be, taht every year the EPT torneys should be played in different places. That would be more interesting than now.
