According to a Swedish poker news site, a young Swedish poker player died just a few days before Christmas Eve in a fire at a hotel in Bali, Asia. The news site writes that it most probably was an accident and that the young Swede was the only one in room that caught fire.

The man, whose name we have decided not to write here, is from the North of Sweden and he was in Asia on a longer holiday. He has been playing in quite a few major tournaments but has no cashes, according to different live tournament tracking sites, however, he was a very talented cash game player and a very respected person among many professional poker players.

Rest in peace.

Burning to death must be one of the most painful ways to die. Years ago while working on a car, a backfire through the carburetor burned my hands in a few small places, and the pain was intense. I can't imagine the pain of burning to death. Sad

No, not really. He was dead (or passed out) long before fire reached him. Carbon from smoke is killer in those cases I think...

A Swedish man is being hunted by police in Balibconnection with a fire at a hotel room that claimed the life of a fellow Swede.

A young male was discovered dead on the morning of Christmas Eve in a hotel at the resort of Kuta in Bali, according to reports in the Indonesian newspaper Jakarta Globe.

Early local reports suggest that the man died as a result of injuries sustained in some kind of fire that broke out during the night.

So far though, there has been no official confirmation of the actual cause of death.

Police are trying to locate another Swedish male who was booked in the same room.

The foreign ministry in Stockholm however has not yet confirmed the incident or any progress in the case.

Yeah I'm pretty sure you're right, most people that die in fires actually just don't wake up and suffocate from inhaling too much carbon.

RIP indeed, it's so sad to see good people die like this...

And yes, mayvictimes die because of smoke/carbon, not flames.

Very sad news to the poker world. The news don’t say but anyone knows if the fire was only in his room? What provoked the fire? Was he sleeping? It’s very strange for something like this to happen. Being swede in Bali, he should have been an intelligent person, used to travel a lot, and the hotel rooms don’t give the users many possibilities to suffer accidents. The max that could happen would be a short circuit, but for that to happen, user should be awake and, unless he fell and bumped with his head, he would have enough strength to get out of the room and scream for help. Sometimes things happen in the most stupid and strange ways that no one can explain why it happened. It’s like some car accidents…
