Peter Eastgate is back for round two! Here is his statement

"Sometimes in life a person can feel lost and wake up one morning not recognizing who he is. Last summer that was how I felt. Prior to winning the WSOP in 2008, my life was very much a good solid routine of playing online poker and hanging out with my friends and family. Winning the WSOP changed that. I relocated to London and started a new life, the life of a high profile poker pro. For almost 2 years I was in a constant spotlight, travelling from poker tournament to poker tournament, doing thousands of interviews and never had a chance to catch my breath. In the whirlwind that followed winning the WSOP I lost track of the most importing thing in my life, myself.

Last summer I decided that I wanted to stop playing poker and catch my breath and find out who I am and what I want to do with my life. Over the last 8 months I have had a chance to reconnect with my friends and most important, my family. I have spent quality time with my family and really had an opportunity to figure out who I am and what I want to do with the rest of my life. When there is no financial pressure it can sometimes be hard to get motivated to move forward as a person.

I truly enjoy playing poker. I love the competitive element and the mental challenges of tournament poker. I feel it is important to constantly grow as a person and for a while I didn't feel I was moving in the right direction. Having had time to think about my life and future I feel I have figured out how I can combine playing poker with a healthy life outside of poker.

I do not consider this a comeback, as I always knew there was a good chance I would play poker again. During my hiatus from poker, PokerStars have been very supportive. Therefore, I am pleased that I will start out with playing two events where I will be sponsored by PokerStars. First, I will be playing the PokerStars.com EPT Copenhagen which of course means a lot to me, since it is on my home ground. Then I will play the NBC Heads Up Championship. I am fortunate that PokerStars have the best online tournaments, so I have an opportunity to get back in tournament shape.

There have been some questions about the sale of my WSOP bracelet. I was not trying to devaluate the WSOP name. It was not sold to make any kind of statement. It was sold to raise money for UNICEF and I am very proud and thankful that the sale raised £100,000 to UNICEF."

This could only come from a young man. His text is very clean and clear, but there is one sentence that kept in my mind: "When there is no financial pressure it can sometimes be hard to get motivated to move forward as a person." I believe he feels it because he has won WSOP, besides other tourneys with big money involved, but, can 20 year old man feel something like this? Was it really him that wrote this? If yes, than great, he is a man with feeling and completely concious of what life is and what are the great values of life.

It was so clear he would come back - and i liek it. I guess in any Pro´s Life there comes the point once where you just need a break. I mean we saw that so often.

Can only imagine what that amount of money would do to a someone at such a young age. Good for him if he got back in touch with what is important in life, and rediscovered his passion for the game. Thumbs Up

good news he can play using and changing his game startegy and love him then he play the same with ak and also 2-6 in hand
playing against him is very hard to all poker players all over the world
he back and hope he will win some money in tournaments and again all poker forums will posts story about his great runs

what a load of BS if he loved and supported that charity he would of given money out of his back pocket not sell the bracelet thats like FU poker, thats nothing,
also i find it hard to believe he wrote that statement.......
he sounds like a 40 year going through a mid life crisis........

i always expected him to come back sooner or later, but it was a good move from him to stop playing for a while and reconnect with his life and family.
regarding the statement i think he might have written it himself, if he can be matured enough to realize that most important thing for him was family then he can think that too

I'm not realy a big fan of Peter Eastgate , it's a very young player , he dont have so much experience yet in poker cash , and i dont like when he make that poker face Smile .

Who really thinks he made a mistake donating the bracelet, I would of done the same thing. I am not a material person so I have no need for a bracelet to remind me of my conquests. If I had one i would either donate it or give it to my mother or sister. You people who chastize this guy, need to realize you have no idea what you would do in his situation. But to say he should take the money out of his pocket instead donating the bracelet is ignorant. He had to pay taxes on all that money and that bracelet donation was TAX DEDUCTABLE, so in the long run he saved himself money. People are so quick to condemn somebady that has accomplished what they cant, sad.

It was definitely written for him. He can barely speak English let alone write it that well. Plus it's a complete fabrication. This is what was really said:


"Before I luck boxed the crapshoot we call the ME, I just played video games, online poker, and hung out in my moms basement, smoking weed with my mates. Winning the WSOP changed that. I moved up to London to try and hide from the responsibility winning the ME brings. I couldn't get away from it for 2 years, it sucked. I had to go to all these tournaments cause I signed with stars, and had to do all these ridiculous interviews. It was crap all the stuff they made me do I never had a chance to party and piss off some of the money I just binked. I couldn't spend all this money I won on myself.

Last summer I got an idea. I'll pretend to quit, and claim I needed to "find myself" so I could party and spend some of this money. Over the last 8 months, me and my friends partied like rock stars. the lie I told about me finding myself worked. Stars and every one else left me alone, and it was awesome!! When you bink that much money, it's hard to grow up, be an adult, and follow through with the bs responsibilities that come with such a high profile win.

Poker rocks though. I love gambling. I feel I should be able to party with my money though too. I think it sucks I have to " go in the right direction" to promote an online poker site.

This isn't a comeback,I knew I was gonna play poker, so did everyone else. I wanted to party first. During my hiatus, pokerstars found out what I was really doing. They called my attorney and said my scam is up. With all the contracts I signed, my lawyer said I can be sued by stars for not fulfilling the contracts. So now , I have to play these 2 tournaments, one in Copenhagen,and one for NBC. Back to the shitty tournament grind. Thank god they didn't drop me, I still can play that frree money they gave me on their site.

As for me selling my bracelet. I could care less if anyone thinks I'm a disrespectful punk kid, having basically pawned a world renowned symbol of excellence and success. Won in the biggest poker tournament on earth. I just wanted the fat Americans money. Screw off wankers!!"
