Small player field showed up for the first day of WPT Barcelona

Yesterday, the first starting day of the WPT Barcelona Spanish Championship kicked off at the Gran Casino in Barcelona. Everyone expected a quite big field of players to show, but unfortunately it didn't end up that way. Only 94 players came to play the first starting day of WPT Barclona, and at the end of the day 54 of them still had chips left.

In the lead is Artur Koren (picture) with 122,800 chips, and in second place is Justin Tazelaar with 112,500 chips. Unfortunately there weren't many big names to be found in the field that survived Day 1a. Let's hope that Day 2 will attract a much greater player field, and that we also get to see some bigger names who survive the day with healthy stacks.

I think that the big poker pros are focusing now on the WSOP 2011 and not on other poker events, Everyone's dream is to win a WSOP bracelet.

I actually expected this to happen after the reactions before the event. All major player already said they are not interested in participating on this world poker tour event. As SuperNoob said another important reason is that all big names in the poker world are prepping for the world serious of poker event from this year.
On the other hand this could have been a good opportunity to add a world poker tour event in your cv. Many amatuers will try now to get this title.
Also the buy in for this event was pretty small for the major names in the game so maybe this could be another reason for which the major pros have not participated. Lets hope wsop will have many participants this year and names like tom dwan durrrr and phil ivey will be there!

That is bad news... Small players want's to have experience in Live poker, and Professional players don't want any exp experience with small players... Sad
