Yesterday the long-awaited re-match between Viktor "Isildur1" Blom and Tom "durrrr" Dwan was played across four $100/$200 No Limit Hold'em tables on Full Tilt Poker. Both players were supposed to bring $100k each to the tables, but late negations were made and instead they sat down with $200,000 each.
Tom Dwan accumulated a small lead in the beginning of the match thanks to winning an all-in (pre-flop) with KK against Blom's 10's. Blom started playing more aggressive after this, but Tom Dwan handled it well and extended his lead by calling down a few river bluffs.
However, Dwan's lead was never very big and eventually Viktor Blom's super-aggressive style started working. Blom took down the 2 biggest pots of the match and was up about $100k after 1,5 hour of play. Blom didn't give Dwan a single chance to catch his breathe once he had the big lead. In fact, it didn't take long before Tom Dwan was forced down to one table - where he kept on losing...
After 2 hours and 45 minutes (1381 hands) Dwan lost his final $3.5k with pockets 10's against Blom's A3 in an all-in situation before the flop - the board ran out Q86A6. It was a well-deserved win by the young Swede, who made a name for himself in November 2009 by crushing Tom Dwan at Full Tilt Poker's nosebleed tables. Back then, the two were playing for millions of dollars on daily basis. Let's hope that history repeats itself!
Ok, so Blom was able to manage with his super aggressive style after taking the lead for Dwan and he kept that until the end of the game and won. But these hands described on the news text show there was a lot of "gods" involved in the action, turning this titan battle into another level. I will want to see another game between these two, the result of this one don't convince me.
there were definetly some cooler hands in favor of isildur but still I think that dwan just getting owned by blom. the last match before black friday was going the same way. Still hoping that they will have a rematch where they will play PLO,which i think favors dwan more then blom
Tom represents the new breed of poker player. He is highly intelligent, continuously evolves his style of play to stay ahead of the pack, and is thoroughly determined to prove himself as the best of the best.
IMHO Blom completely destroys Dwan in HU NLHE. I'm not in the least bit surprised by this, Dwan is an incredible NLHE player, obviously - but I think he is outclassed by a handful of HU nosebleed players and certainly outclassed in this game by Blom.
well to be fair to dwan- it's very hard to tell who is who from one session- if we do not mind the history between them, then this was just one session & yeah it was dominated by blom, but it could be just because he had a good day at the office, card were running well etc. however if we do add the history into account- then yeah it seems that at nlhe hu blom has an edge over dwan
I followed all the matchs back in 2009 and i tell you guys, this ones are not even 10% of the fun of it was before! I remember the crazy railing of that matchs, in the times where everybody was guessing who was the mistery swedish player, with some of them being raight saying it was bloom, and where Doyle was RIP every 2 minutes! Very funny and the best matchs ever!
