Las Vegas Hilton gets a new name

Tags: Colony Capital LLC, hilton worldwide, las vegas hilton, Thomas Barrack.
Posted on 05 January 2012 by "T".

2012 will be a fresh new start for the classic Las Vegas Hilton hotel that changed name to The LVH-Las Vegas Hotel & Casino a few days ago. The changeover began last month with removal of the gigantic Las Vegas Hilton sign out front.

The hotel, which is owned by Thomas Barrack's (a billionaire from Los Angeles) Colony Capital LLC, decided not to renew the licensing deal, which expired at the end of 2011, with Hilton Worldwide - after an light-year business relationship. It remains unclear why Colony Capital decided to terminate the contract after so many successful years. And neither Colony Capital nor Hilton Worldwide have commented on the matter.

It would be interesting to see if they'll do other changes too except the ame, that really isn't such a major change...

Maybe some high stakes rooms would be interesting to see Smile

Sometimes, between so powerful business men as this two, little things are enough to end up with what looks to be great deals for a common non-billionaire. Of course this can also means that Hilton Worldwide will get a new space in the city, but finishing a contract to start another one just around the corner: it would have to be a 180 degree change or else it would go straight ahead into to hole of unhappy investments.

hey if thomas decided to change the name and terminate the contract that means only one- he is not satisfied with the current deal- now why is he dissatisfied is another question, it might be due to the fact that commercially hilton haven't done enough- i.e. maybe the deal had some sort of clauses about min. occupancy rates or sth else and hilton hadn't delivered that or it might be because of large appetite of hilton and as we know there are plenty substitutes who can do the job as good but cheaper...

It can be the payment he had to make, to use the name 'Hilton', did not bring enough revenue, looking at the cost.
Anyway, if I were the Hilton group, I would not accept the new name, especially the 'LVH' part, which are the first letters of Las Vegas Hilton. So it could even be he gets sued for using them.

The name of this casino hotel doesn't really control the places destiny. On any given weekend the rooms are packed along with the casino floor. Every time I went to Vegas, which is many, many , many since I only lived 68 miles from there for several years, these places are packed to capacity. It's even hard to find a room in the older, small places in that city come the weekend and a lot of times during the week. I just wonder what their root cause and goalls are! Good Luck to All!

hey maybe hilton done a great job at managing the property (or consulting on that part) but there are other operators (franchisers) who can do a great job as well, and probably cheaper- hilton is a premium name to have, and while you say most of the places on the strip are full, so why not go for a cheaper option- place will be full as well, but management costs would be lower....maye i am wrong though.... Shock

It's according to what you mean by cheap! I've been in Vegas on a Saturday night and seen where a Motel 6 is asking $300.00 a night and this is on the outskirts of town. My daughter and I stayed at the Best Western and had to share the room, this is after checking all over town, we still paid $350.00+ dollars at 3:00 am and there were people wanting to pay us $400.00 for us to give the room up to them. True story! It gets ridiculous unless you do the pre-scheduled trip plan.

My wife and children have also stayed on the 34th floor of Circus Circus for all of us 3 nights only $189.00 it's a crazy world out there, but everyone should visit at least once in there life time. Good Luck!

sure the business was no longer as profitable both ways, there is no reason to end a contract that seemed so right to finally think their problem will not be no lack of money, this is a little left
