19 players owe Full Tilt Poker $16.5 million

Another issue has shown up in the sale process of Full Tilt Poker. In total, a group of 19 players owe the company about 16.5 million dollars. Just to mention a few of them: Phil Ivey, Erick Lindgren, Barry Greenstein and David Benyamine. Groupe Bernard Tapie, the upcoming owners of Full Tilt Poker, are currently working out repayments plans for all the players.

Laurent Tapie, the son of Bernard Tapie (the founder of Groupe Bernard Tapie), said in an interview the other day that some of the players already have accepted to pay back money owed to the company, and some of the repayment plans will shortly be settled.

According to what representatives from Group Bernard Tapie said earlier this year, these outstanding debts might create a serious threat for the deal to be completed if it's not regulated in time.

Some have signed contracts saying they will pay if the money goes to the players, but without the money there are no players, catch 22.
Its not suprising tha GBT will not cover the debt, perhaps the DOJ can use some of the left over cash they will have.
Or as they are all friends, pay Chris directly and let him FO

Wow 71, must be our oldest member.
At the moment the DOJ hold it, forfeited by Full Tilt along with assets, earning some nice interest.(around 8mill at a rough guess)
The money is to be split, GBT buys assets, DOJ pays US players, the rest of us are still waiting to see what will happen, but I expect we will all have our balances back in full, but with withdraw restrictions.

But they absolutely should pay it back, 19 players are now responsible, that money is not theirs, it is mine and others, I did not loan them it!!

I don' think ftp acquisition will be stopped due to this player debts, i 'm sure gbt knows that ftp is a huge money machine...

If they manage to bring back the online players they can make those money in a matter of weeks.

cool to hear that it is not only full tilt that owes cash to the players, but there are dudes who are in debt to the tilters, just wonder why are they in debt- how the hell can you be given around 17 millions from a poker site for nothing- what is the reason behind this- was it a loan, cash to play online (no deposit bankroll looool)

A GBT lawyer said that GBT is not interested in adquire assests that need go to court (that means GBT want his 16.5 millions or bye).
I don´t understand how FTP was so stupid with the debts of the professional players.

These debts will have to be paid, there is no question about that. Court should give them that indication fast at define a date to be accomplished, or else they have to be punished. It is this way everywhere, justice in the USA is known as being the fastest and the most impartial, so it just have to be applied to this fellows. At first I wasn’t understanding how could someone owe money to an online poker room, but when I read their names I got it… I really like some of them, but justice is (or should be) blind.

What I really don't get is... Why would such players with huge carreer winnings have to borrow money from FTP?? Doesn't make any sense. Why borrow millions when you already got millions?
