Martin Rettenmaier won WPT Merit Cyprus Classic main event last night and became the first person in history to win back-to-back World Poker Tour main event titles. Not many could see this coming two days ago, when Day 4 started with 18 players and Rettenmaier had one of the smallest stacks...

But he fought very well during Day 4 and turned his 200k stack into massive 2 million chips and made it to the final table in 3rd place. On the final table he was by far the most experienced player and it really showed as he knocked out every single opponent and laid hands on the first place prize of $287,784. Simply amazing!

Final table results:

1 Marvin Rettenmaier $287,784
2 Artur Voskanyan $184,020
3 Ran Azor 118,360
4 Victor Parashiv $87,610
5 Joseph El Khoury $65,770
6 Kiryl Radzivonau $52,590

I had a loto f expectation on this guy: after transforming his 200k stack in a 2 million one, he showed he was concentrated on what he is doing. I think it was yesterday that i wrote in a fórum about the difficulty in changing strategy when we are lo won stack and start going all-in with any good hand, because after starting, most probably is we don’t know how or when to stop doing it. But Martin Rettenmaier, who probably applied this strategy to reach the 2 million chips, sure have known when to give it a break and return to the book strategy.

Hella nice takedown and nice to create history while you're winning 200k+

The guy is a force, he'll be around for some years to come.

great comeback and these are the ones you think you have no chance at generally so you play sparingly then, boom! Your back in it and win it all. Congratulations to him for such a great comeback.

well the fact that he created history tells it all- really tons of players tried this before him and failed- therefore he is either the luckiest dude on the tables or he is the best tournament player in the world- imho it's a combination of skill and luck that helped him out...great achievement non the less...

yeah pochui.

I mean it's clearly a bit of luck and ability, but more ability.

You're gon a struggle to get lucky consistently for two tournaments in a row against top players.

So all credit goes to him.

Big congratulations to the winner considering that he made such a spectatular comeback in a few hands Big Smile

The first prize wasn't too big if you ask me but i think it's pretty good considering it was organized in a small country.
